I was just wondering what the story is behind Six Flags? Like why is it called that? Were there 6 original Six Flags? If so what were they? And when did Six Flags suddenly have an amusement park everywhere? I dont remember there being nearly as many when I was younger. Thanks for your help!

The original Six Flags park is Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington. The park was opened in 1961 as America's first ever regional theme park. There were 6 themed areas to match the six flags. The six flags represent the 6 nations whose flags have flown over Texas. Mexico, Spain, France, Texas, the Confederacy, and the United States.
There were eventually 2 other Six Flags parks that formed the original 3 Six Flags parks. Six Flags Over Georgian and Six Flags Over Mid-America (now known as Six Flags St Louis). I'm not sure of all the details, but I think it was under the control of Warner Bros. that Six Flags acquired Great Adventure, Great America, Magic Mountain, and Astroworld. Once Premier took control, all heck broke loose and now we have all of the Six Flags parks we have today, sadly, at a bit of a loss of quality at many of them.
I still love going to the original SFoT, which just happens to be my home park. It's a wonderful park, and, from what I hear, is still one of the better of the Six Flags parks.
Do most SF parks have the theming of the 6 countries? I've only been to SFGadv, and SFMM so, I don't have any experience with SF.
Naw, as far as I know, SFoT is the only one that actually has the theming of the 6 countries. Heck, even SFoT is beginning to stray a bit. The US section is broken down into Good Times Square and Gotham City. Then there's Looney Tunes Land and other stuff.
I've only been to SFoT, SFStL, and SFAW, but the latter 2 don't really even count since the times I was at those parks I was too young to remember or to ride anything. So, the only Six Flags park I have any recollecion of is SFoT. All I know about the others is just what I read about them.
From what I've seen and learned, Six Flags St. Louis (Over Mid-America) originally had Great Britain, Spain, USA, and I'm pretty sure they had a France section as well. Now, the British section is the only remaining. Spain has become DC Comics Plaza and USA has been divided into Warner Bros. Backlot and Illinois. Other areas include Gateway to the West and 1904 World's Fair.
