Storm Runner OSTR's Discussion

The only time I had trouble with the restraints was the one time I sat in the back. As long as I sat near the front, I was fine.
5'9", 155lbs. I found them quite comfortable (except for the near-impossibility of stepping through the trains while they're up, as noted earlier). My only experience of pain was one ride I turned my head to the side to say something to a friend I was riding with. I did it right after the top hat, and my nose smashed into the restraint when we hit the zero g. But, that was my fault - not the restraint.

With that said, I don't see the purpose of OTSR's on Kingda Ka, as it never goes upside down (or even overbank). It's a taller TTD with a bunny hill - so use the TTD restraints (aka lap bars).

I'm 6'2 and I got banged on Storm Runner. While they are certainly better then the old school OTSRs, they still fall far short of good.

I think it's reasonable to predict that TTD is going to beat Kingda Ka in the end because of the OTSRs, despite the addition of a few feet and a bunny hill. Then again, I'm someone that thinks that every OTSR is a problem when it's not a B&M

I don't think that they are too bad. I got my ears boxed a little in the back but then braced myself the next time and I was fine. I don't even remember anymore where the worst abuse took place.
I would actually loved to have seen restraints similar to the ones for Hypersonic at PKD. The seats on that ride are extremely comfortable.
10 ways to hold the labbar down woah! never been on it but they do look rather lose. Ones i do like however are the new restraints for the premeirs.
rdreaming.. maybe that's part of the problem? B&M did such a good job in designing an OTSR, that another company can't get close without possibly violating intellectual property rights. :)

Yeah but the problem with B&M OTSR's is that they are TOO CLOSE!! You have no room to put your hands up without fighting the person next to you. They need to add a few more inches between each seat.
For me I find Storm Runners restraint just fine. I can see where taller people would have problems. For me being 5' 9" the restraint does just what is it intended to do, and that is support my hips just like a lapbar. I haven't had any problems with headbanging, and I prefer to ride it in the back. I sure wish that I could have got more laps then I did this season. ;)

I'm not gonna touch that with a 10 foot pole.

Where's moosh?

Let's just face it, enthusiasts like lap bars, period. Most of us don't want to miss one moment of airtime, or having the freedom to throw our hands up, especially if the coaster in question carries an Intamin label. While comfort is important, it's really a secondary issue.

Sorry, it just irks me when people beat around the bush. ;) *** Edited 12/31/2004 6:03:09 AM UTC by DWeaver***

Oof! Hehe, embarrassing Freudian slip on my part.

Dannerman, I'm not sure if it's the design of the restraints that's why B&Ms with OTSRs have no headbanging - it's the coasters themselves.

As for the person that thinks that enthusiasts hate all OTSRs... then why do I and many others have such high opinions of B&M floorless and inverted coasters?

Not according to Mitch's polls. 8 out of 10 coasters feature airtime of some form, with lapbars.
I am 15, 5'4" and 115ish pounds and i had no incidents on the three times I rode. The back did feel a little rougher but no bashing that i can recall.

rdreaming, was the Freudian slip yours or Tekno's? I mean, going from a 10 foot pole to Moosh... ;)
Mine was on purpose:).

You shoulda seen what moosh PMed me...

I'm just glad they can close the damn thing at all on me. I figure as long as I get to ride, I can go without breathing for 40 seconds and I can always push my eyes back into their sockets once they release the restraints.

My question is:

Is that guys username r-dreaming or rd-reaming?

Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

I'm 5'11", 140 lbs...no problems at all with the restraints or with headbanging...it was comfortable on my bony shoulders and everything. :)

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger
