Stemin Demon is half white!

Hey I just got back from Great Escape and to my half happiness Stemin Demon is getting painted. Other than that nothing new seemed to be happening. Rainbow is still in parts and there (sadly) is no new bridge or new entrance.

That is sad... hmm... hopefully somebody will post pictures on their web site ((hint, CalvinJ23, hint)), as someone else was to visit there as well.

I'm betting that Steamin Deamon is not going to be white, as much as it's like a primer. It wouldn't look too attractive as a white when riding it nor when looking at it from any angle. I just wonder if the color scheme will be a little darker.

I am very disappointed about the bridge. I thought that at LEAST... at the very very least, they would have begun phase I of their multi-year expansion... and the phase I would be non-ride work (bridge, road widening, sanitaization, water treatment... etc etc etc). I wonder if there's a reason for that.

Steamin Demon's new nickname should be Michael Jackson ;)

Hey CalvinJ23.... not only should you get your pass processed... but you should DEFINATELY ask why there are no new real rides or changes this year at The Great Escape.

You've inquired last year near the end of the season. You should now ask again this year to anybody that works there... preferably somebody in higher position, because we're all clueless as to why there is nothing new at all in the least when they were supposed to start expanding this year!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, im gonna ask!! At the end of last year I was told the park would be getting a few new rides. But from everything ive been told the park has actually removed a ride or to. (ie: the rotor) ill get some pics, ask about new rides, and what happened to the ped. bridge over rte. 9 The park is really starting to piss me off...what we get a EuroBungy Pay Attraction and some new stupid show...geez!

I must agree with Calvin. It really sucks when there have been two new rides in three years and both of which are pay per ride attractions. I was there and took lots of pics and I have to get them developed and scanned so Calvin will most likely be first with the pictures. I, too, was hoping for a new entrance or a new bridge but I guess well be waiting.....

hey wickedtwisted, you didnt happen to walk through the woods when you were there did you? if you go up the street and look, theres a path that leads into the woods, and if you follow that path it brings you up behind where they have the haunted house for Fright Fest. hopefully the weather is good when i go upto get my pass on wednesday. if it is ill take a walk back there with the digital handy, and snap away :) hopefully something will be there and they just havent announced it. i really thought we would be getting a new coaster or large ride this year because of the land clearing that was taking place the last day the park was open for '01. i wonder what happened.

Man am I tired of Great Escape not doing anything to improve the park. I only live 35 min. away and I still consider SFNE my home park. I love the comet, and thats about it. Also why dont they let 4 people get into the cars on Nightmare????? Its a jetstar in a building. All of the other jetstars I have been on let 4 people ride. The lines for that are terrible.

Is it true its always happy hour here? If it is I'd like to stay a while....

I know what everyone is talking about. It will take time but Great Escape will become the park that everyone wants it to be. But, we need to wait and see what the year brings. I, as much as anyone, want to see a massive expansion next year, but need to wait until an official announcement is made.

Cedar Point gets "twisted for 2002"
Great Escape gets "screwed for 2002"

Well, while they ponder on what to do with G.E. I will be spending money at all the other northeast parks this year. I havent been to La Ronde, so I will wave at G.E. on the drive past it on my way to canada!

NewYorkSuperman - Great Escape was supposed to expand this year, with new rides, and the pedestrian bridge, then over the course of 5 years, other new rides and attractions would be added. These plans were approved late last year. Im awaiting a reply back from the Director of Community Development right now.

I spoke with Mr. Round, Queensbury's Director of Community Development around November of last year after park employee's told me that the park wanted to add new rides for '02. Mr. Round confirmed that new rides and the pedestrian bridge were approved for the upcoming season. He also stated that the company plans to invest between $30 - $50 million over the next five years for new attractions.

As for the Rotor being removed, those plans have been in the works for awhile now, and it was removed in January. They told us this last season after it had broken down alot. Just had to ask the ride op for that one lol.

Where is the EuroBungy located near the rock wall? I cant picture where it could fit. Since youve got the Alpine Bobsled across from the rock wall and the Raging river to the left, and the food place behind it. (but then again im not familar with the size of this ride) My guess was that it was going to take over the land that the rotor occupied. hopefully your right and the EuroBungy is near the rock wall. Then that would leave the land where the Rotor once stood for the rumored S&S Turbo Drop towers that are **supposed** to come to the park in the near future.

Here's a confirmed list of things to happen at the park:
The park will make a number of infrastructure improvements including a pedestrian bridge, expanded parking, dedicated-access traffic lanes on Route 9, an on-site tertiary sewage treatment plant, storm-water management, and an upgrade of electrical systems. The park is also expected to build a new 200-suite, Adirondack-style hotel adjacent to the Coach House Restaurant and a convention center nearby.

Here's a list of rumored rides to come in:
Intamin Impulse Coaster
S&S Drop Towers
Wooden Coaster

those were all the rumored rides that I heard about, those rumors coming from park employee's last season.

now my question is, what was the park doing at the end of the '01 season behind Ghost Town?? since there arent any major attractions coming in this season?? and what was in those large crates that were visible if you took the train ride through Jungle Land? does anyone know?

I did just that New York Superman. I personally think that the height limit is 200 if mind of reading Times Union is serving me correctly.

-----------------

it is 200 feet. the skycoaster alone is 180ft. with a drop of 165

EDIT: your right DawgByte on the lower land my bad, read the article to fast.

165 is for the area's closer to the front of the park

Hey NewYorkSuperman...

You sure seem to know a lot about the park and don't B.S. on any rumors of things coming to the park, but just on basically what sounds more like the truth.

I got a few questions for you that I think you can openly answer, as they are not too personal to the park.

1) Why is the SkyLab still around, but never put up? That was the ONLY flat ride that goes inverted at the park. I heard there was an accident the last year they had it, but can't understand why they still have it, but never re-assembled it. It's a great ride!!

2) Is the Rainbow going to absolutely for sure go back up this year? WickedTwisted said that it was still in pieces when he was up there... or was that CalvinJ23?? Either or, will that be running this year?

3) I also read in the Lake George Times or some newspaper that they can build rides upto a height of 200' as long as it's in the lowest section of the park... so I think you may be wrong on that part.

4) Corporate are cheap bastards!! Forgetting the little people... just glorifying the best-of's... Dontchya agree? ;)

*Grinning from ear to ear*......it is comforting to see this antique get some TLC. It will be nice to see that red and yellow again. :) I believe this was the first Loop & Corkscrew by Arrow, and it operated at Ponchartrain Beach in New Orleans from 78-83 before arriving at GE. Quite a classic! Too bad I cannot carry out my original plans this summer which included GE. :(

One last thing I forgot, NewYorkSuperman...

I heard the Incredible Acrobats of China were a really, really great show. Do you know why they sent them shipping back to their own country? Why in the world did they replace such a fab show with some amature magician where most of the audience knows 3/4ths of the tricks...
It just doesn't make sense!

A circus like that should have been an almost pernament fixture with different shows year after year.... you have any reason as to why they were discarded in favor of magic?

NewYorkSuperman - I believe the skylab is still on GE's land. There seemed to be alot of stuff in the back field behind JungleLand at the end of last season. What I could see from the train was 3 large crates, part of the balloon ride, the old steamin' deamon sign, and a large support of somekind (looked rather old) then over to the right was a storage shed with who knows what in it. there may have also been more on the grounds, but due to the tree's and the storage shed my view was obstructed from seeing anymore.

btw - any word on if they fixed there problems w/the Boomerang? i didnt enjoy that one bit last season especially after being stuck on it on more then 2 occasions.

Oh yeah Calvin that shed had skylab's parts in it. I saw i once on the Big Wheel (binaculars). I would love to see Great Escape open a thrill ride thats been taken away. They have dismantled almost all of them. (Thunderbolt, Skylab, Rainbow) To my count the most thrilling non pay ride is now down to Chippers Magical Mystery, Trabant, or Flying Trapeze. (which is really sad) I hope they can fix the thrill ride situation.
