"Steel Dragon" arrived.

Waldameer's new coaster was named today, kind of used / un-creative. "Steel Dragon". None of the ops liked it and relatively no one clapped when announced. Oh well. 30 minute max. wait. The coaster is fun, and a good decision by the park, unlike the name.

Was anyone from CoasterBuzz there? I was there from 2:30 - 4pm. I was wearing a bright yellow shirt and khaki shorts...

Well, the photos on rcdb.com look awesome. I'm glad mice-designers are finally starting to do some different things, like banked drops and (almost) overbanked turns.

Is this the same model as the Whirlwind at SeaBreeze?

I think it is modified, the last turn doesn't look as high as the one as Whirlwind.

Yep, the ride officially opened last friday. The ride is now open every day, running 4 cars.

The ride's new name is so lame.
I hate it. Reminds me of that Japanese joke Steel Dragon 2000 that crushed Millennium Force's 2 records (fastest & tallest).

The ride itself is uber-smooth & climbs the lift really fast. Not as dizzying as I thought/hoped it'd be, but still nice.

Name is dumb, though... I bet a 6yr old came up with the name & that's the only reason they chose it. Come on... a naming contest for all these weeks and that's the final? Hmmm... something's not right. Maybe they only got one response?

The fact that everything was themed to dragons already also makes me wonder about how "legit" the naming contest is also. For instance, the name submission page had a dragon on it, before the contest even ended!

11 year old named it I guess... I dont know, I only heard the announcement, didn't see it. I just got back from Waldameer again ;). Ride is better at night, but still an awesome pick for Waldameer.

The one girl op I know for a fact hated the ride... she said they should have used her name... "Blazing Fire", which makes sense seeing the coaster is very bright red.

We rode it last week and it was very cool, smooth and family friendly. My daughter loved it "my favorite part was going down the big hill really fast." LOL, I guess it would be big and fast to a 5 yr old. While it's disorienting, it doesn't make you dizzy like Exterminator can. Great addition to the park.

I wouldn't say 8 feet taller and 2 mph faster is crushing. That would be like saying a team winning a basketball game by 2 points was a slaughter.

I would say Dragster crushed both of them though! :)
