States' Average Woodie rankings

For winter fun, I calculated each states’ average woody rankings, using Mitch Hawker’s coaster poll numbers. Here are the states with the highest woody ranking averages, regardless of the total number of coasters in each state:

AVG Rank Best States

22 New Mexico

28 Maine

30 Lousiana

43 Indiana

49 Maryland

49 Tennessee

51 Missouri

57 Florida

57 Connecticut

61 New Hampshire

Here are states with lowest woody ranking averages:

AVG Rank Worst States

155 West Virginia

133 Ontario

125 Minnesota

122 North Carolina

116 Utah

114 Ohio

112 Pennsylvania

107 Oklahoma

107 Virginia

106 Iowa

The more coasters a state has, the more likely their average has been brought down by their "clunker" coasters. Also, coaster newbies who ride very few coasters, and only in their own states, are likely to have a skewed view of woodies in general. Newbie riders in New Mexico, for example, even though they only have one coaster, are likely to be writing letters to Governor Bill Richardson, begging for more woodies. Newbie riders in West Virginia are likely burning down the trees in their back yards for fear of another “Dipper”, and in Utah, every kid and his mother(s) are riding steel coasters instead. *** Edited 1/27/2005 1:15:51 AM UTC by Bill*** *** Edited 1/27/2005 1:16:26 AM UTC by Bill*** *** Edited 1/27/2005 1:17:20 AM UTC by Bill***

And the Predator, which finished in the bottom 5.

I would have thought to see Idaho and Michigan higher.

Why does it not suprise me that, even with only 2 coasters, WV still sucks when it comes to coasters?;)

Are Camden's 2 coasters that bad?

I knew it. PA does not have any good wood.
Yeah it does... just too much bad wood bringing 'em down.

Where does NJ Rank? We've got 2 Woodies and they both suck!

Thanks,

Jersey has three.
I'd say Indiana and Pennsylvania are the two best woodie states. I'm sure Idaho would be right up there, but with my fear of potato's, I'm afraid I never will know. ;)

Jersey has one *excellent* woodie and one really solid beachside woodie. The one at GAdv brings down the average a LOT, but with the addition at Clementon, Jersey is representin' yo! ;)

I don't think that *average* is really a good indicator, more indicative IMO would be to say..."how many non-PoS woodies", LOL.

Also, if Ontario counts (despite the obvious geographic situation), then shouldn't British Columbia? That woodie in Vancouver was *lights out*...:)

Like Kris said, PA, IN, ID are SOLID....but I can see TN and MD getting high rankings too, and based solely on reports, NM has it going on in quality even if the quantity is low...

Wonder how far Ohio dropped when LeSourdsville closed again...:(

edited for Swoosh: Yes, MO does deserve a high ranking too, good wood in various locations. WoF does need to do better maintenance though, LOL... *** Edited 1/27/2005 8:41:40 AM UTC by rollergator***

Idaho only has two woodies ranking 4 and 21 for an average of 12.5. It should be at the top of the list.

Michigan ranks low because of Zach's Zooomer and Wolverine Wildcat

I guess I missed something... I didn't know we had annexed Ontario.

All the more reason to attend Coaster Alley Convergence [details coming soon!].

Wow, are we bored... Look guys!! There's a dog show on ESPN 4! Dear Snow, please go away, to keep threads like this to a minimum.

There's nothing like a woodie...

Speak for yourself, Woody. I thought it was interesting and obviously a few others did, too.

Florida is in the "high" zone? Gwazi?

Not Gwazi. DBH! :)

The only wooden coaster I'll be skipping when I'm in the Billiam state later this year...:(

Well, Clint, that's cause you weren't quick enough on the draw to get here when we had that OTHER great woodie....any news at ALL on Starliner? Anyone?

gator, *hopes* to ride DBH this weekend..:)

P.S. Maybe Idaho didn't make the list because we traded the Canadians for the "Ontario annex"...;) Under any circumstances, it just doesn't get ANY better than the Silverwoodies...

This is an interesting 'stat' if you will. But average is no way to do it, some states have 30 woodies while some only have 1, the best way to probably do this would be to take the average rank then divide *again* by the number of woodies, this could possibly be a better indicator.

Just an idea though.. ;) *** Edited 1/27/2005 9:38:06 PM UTC by JamminJ***
