state with most amusement parks

Those numbers aren't quite true though. It includes several defunct parks and excludes some operating parks. Bushkill Park isn't listed for Pennsylvania for example.

Duane just removed Bushkill within the past week. There is some question as to whether their Kiddie Coaster is really a coaster at all and it looks like RCDB's official stance is going to be that it's not. But until just a few days ago Bushkill was always listed on RCDB.

With regards to the disappearance of Bushkill... Then please explain why a search for MD parks still shows Jeepers (with only kiddie coasters) and a search on PA shows Pocono Play Park (with only a kiddie coaster)?

Face it, call ourselves what we want, but to the parks we are all "GP".

We have to define terms here. Throw out theme parks, water parks, kiddie parks, parks with less than 12 rides, mall parks and boardwalk parks. Use Kennywood, Hershey, Cedar Point or King's Island as examples. If we mean parks that look like those parks, Pennsylvania has the most. It also has the oldest average park age, the highest number of classic rides, the greatest variety of flat rides, and the highest number of independent parks. Anybody researching amusement park history spends the summer in Pennsylvania.

Cool, theres finally something for Pennsylvanians to brag about to the rest of the country! I always suspected ...

If Florida is really such a hotbed of coastering, why am I so jealous of you all from May- October every year....;)
You guys really made this into such a predicament. It was just supposed to be a simple entertaining question. But I'd have to say that Trekker stands pretty much with how i felt when i wrote the question. I meant AMUSEMENT PARKS, not water parks or kiddie coasters or per capita crap. I meant real parks like kennywood and cedar point and six flags. The question was racking my mind, and i narrowed it down to ohio and pennsylvania. Thanx for confirming my answer of Pennsylvania Trekker.

Per capita "crap"? Sorry if I offended you DorneyDante. I thought it would be interesting to know.

Dorney Dante, you just experienced one of my main pet peeves about message boards(though I do love them). Anytime you ask a question about anything, people will work it and work it until they find an answer that favors their favorite park, area, coaster designer, park chain ect.

It never fails...(lol)

People working at justifying their love of a certain area isn't nearly as bad as folks who can't (or refuse to) spell or capitalize properly. ;) A few folks here need to take some deep breaths...or a few rides for that matter.

Because Bushkill's "kiddie coaster" doesn't coast. It is more like a small train ride that travels along an undulating track. It even has a power car shaped like a steam locomotive.

And to follow up my own Buskill question... I will again refer to the book I mentioned Amusement Parks of Pennsylvania. While Bushkill is listed in this book as a "major" park (pretty small "major" if you ask me), nothing is mentioned of a coaster (kiddie or any other kind being there) in both the write up for the park and the list of PA coasters in the back. (Pocono Playland's Kiddie Coaster is listed in the list however)

and to OutKast... On working a topic. Hey, give us in PA our turn. Every now and then some posts can turn into something other than a SFMM or CP thread.

Face it, call ourselves what we want, but to the parks we are all "GP".

That's dissapointing. I just ordered that book (written by Jim Futrell) and I was hoping it would have some information on the "kiddie coaster."

Well, perhaps it does in the write up, but not in the coaster list. I just skimmed the write up breifly. So far I've only read the chapters on Williamsgrove, Idlewild, Dorney Park, and Conneaut Lake (along with the intro chapters). Over all not a bad book... though when talking about Dorney (and Knoebels and Hershey... I peeked at those two) and the coasters, no mention is made of Herb Schmeck (references made... but not mentioned by name). They do specifically mention Edward Vettle (Conneaut's Blue Streak) and Oscar Bittler (Williamsgrove's Cyclone), so it isn't simply because they do not mention designer names.

Oh well... this is a book on PA amusement parks... not specifically a coaster book.
