Son of Beast is closed pending an investigation of an alleged head injury by a 39-year-old woman. The woman suffered a burst blood vessel in her brain and had to be admitted to a hospital's ICU, according to the incident report from the Amusement Ride Safety Division of the Ohio Department of Agriculture. The woman had been at Kings Island on May 31, but did not report the accident until June 16.

Raise your hand if you were surprised to hear that SOB was shut down because someone allegedly suffered a serious injury on the ride.
[Looks for a show of hands through the tubes... sees none.]
That's what I thought.
I really hope CF reevaluates Sonny's status. With Diamondback in the stable, I can't imagine that Sonny would be worth its maintenance costs in ridership for much longer.
Imagine how many smaller coasters could be built with all that wood from SOB. The BEAST:3rd GEN.

An end of summer "Bonfire Spectacular" might be nice. ;)
I have a funny feeling that she had a condition prior to riding SOB that caused that blood vessel to burst. It could have happened at anytime not just riding on SOB. I am sure that she felt some pain prior to riding the ride and knew something was wrong but kept on going through the q-line. At some point the rider must take the responsinility for thier own actions and health when they are riding any rides.
So your a doctor and can confirm this?
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I understand that we all like these things, and don't want to think they can't hurt someone, but why is it that the so-called "experts" always come out and are so quick to point the finger at a preexisting condition as if it were 100% fact?
The ride is rough, and I don't find it the least bit improbable that it could have caused this blood vessel to burst, preexisting or not.
...And I'm no doctor. :)
You know that as we age we end up killing neurons, and that as a result of that our brain literally gets smaller. The problem is that our skull and the veins that connect it to the skull don't. This ends up causing a bunch of weak veins to be tethered in free space in our skull cavity, connected at one end to our skull and another to our brain. The brain is free to move around in the skull and as it gets smaller it can move around a whole lot more. Well if you shake the brain hard enough you can cause those veins to break. That causes a slow leak of blood into the brain cavity that given time can cause serious problems, but the person can have no symptoms for days sometimes even weeks. This is called a subdural hematoma. 39 years old is a little young for this to normally happen, but given SOB's notorious roughness it is not impossible. I would wait to see what exactly happend first before passing judgement, burst brain vessel does not always mean berry anyerism rupture.
This ride really serves little purpose. To the majority of people, it is not a good ride because of the roughness. They took out the only redeeming feature of the coaster (the loop) after it tore itself apart (because of the roughness). It is time to use the land for better use. Bigger isn't better and that coaster proves it.
Hey Crazy, I am no doctor but I do research quite a bit about medical issues since I have incurable nerve disease which is called idiopthic peripheral neuropathy. Yes that disease affects the nerves in my hands and feet and is only going to get worse as time goes. I also have spent my fair share in the hospital for other medical reasons. So chances are it was a pre-exiting condition that she may have known about previously but didn't think twice about her condition. It's not the ride's fault since their was warnings in the q-line.

As a KI regular...IMO, you couldn't be more wrong. Not to enthusiasts, but the GP *thinks* they love it, and half of them think it still has the damn loop!! However, a lot of times after riding with some GP'ers I'll ask them about it, and usually the response is akin to a Five Guys burger meal...good idea at the time of ordering, but not feeling so great afterwards!
I havnt ridden it in a few years, but that is definitely one coaster that was poorly planned and engineered from the beginning. I agree with Jeff's comment, there comes a time when a ride is just simply too dangerous, and too much of a potential loss for a park, especially in these troubled financial times. I say it needs to go before someone gets really hurt, quite unnecessarily.
still trying to think of a good signature...

Really? Everyone in the Dayton area I talk to (including those at UD from which come from Cinici) think the ride is horrible and has killed someone. Killed. I did a report in our engineering ethics class on ride mishaps and the various incidents on who to blame, and this is where it came out, in class discussion, in my own group, and with my friends.
Back in the day the locals though SoB was better than Millie, but now it's a joke.
Hey Swami! Why wait 3 years? There's a new coaster, taller, and better than sob, that will make the guests forget about that POS in less than a year.
Rip it out, and use the land for better wood coasters. Hell....I'll even go as far a to say, build a GG coaster on that site. It can't possibly get any worse than what's already there.
I'm surprised they hadn't sold off the remaining SOB merchandise - the three remaining cervical collars and two SOB protective helmets.

As of today, the SOB merchandise was being pulled out of KI's gift shops.
Definitely not the greatest sign...but better can truly be done with that land.
I'm just glad I got a few rides on June 14th (when it still seemed fine to me!) as SOB is sort of like Demon Drop...you just don't know what ride will be your last.
