The couple behind refurbishing the painted ponies of the old Miracle Strip Amusement Park carousel and giving them new life at Pier Park have purchased the old wooden “Starliner” roller coaster and will bring it back to Panama City Beach. Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven purchased the popular roller coaster in 2006 after Miracle Strip closed in September 2004 after 41 years of operation. But after Cypress Gardens was replaced with Legoland, the coaster, the oldest wooden roller coaster in Florida, went into storage, Teddy Meeks said.

I thought we had decided Matt's taste was weird a long time ago (Cue TX giant discussion).

Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."
Whose credit?

Well, on TG Matt was right... ;)
Actually, he and I have quite similar tastes. Rides we've ridden together, generally we feel pretty similar about. But he got "the good rides" on Nashie, while I got "the good rides" on Starliner. You win this time, Matt... :)

For me, it comes out as being an average, to slightly above average ride. And average is a good thing. It currently ranks #107 out of 233 total ridden, so it's just above the middle, and I'd say, for me, that's about right in how I'd rank it.

Back to Starliner...in the wake of CLP's success with the Pepsi people - http://www.refresheverything.com/starlinerbackhome
Apparently the competition to take $250k from Pepsi is tighter than it is to take $50k from Pepsi.
GTKW couldn't nab the quarter million, but Conneaut easily landed $50,000.
The Starliner people got greedy and went for the $250,000 and they're lingering around 30th place.
Probably easier to win $50,000 five times under different names. ;)

NERD ALERT! NERD ALERT!

You can punch me on Saturday.
Punch you? I know where you're sleeping, there'll be more than punching...
I know I like aggressive and rough rides more than most, but I seriously am baffled why most of y'all have such a different view of the ride or somehow got such different rides on the Dipper when we all seem to crave airtime so much. Did you not experience loads of airtime or was it just too rough that you couldn't enjoy it? If Phoenix was rough, would you all not like it anymore? Just curious. More than any ride, I am curious about the vastly differing opinions of the Dipper.

Long live the Big Bad Wolf
It had airtime but nothing impressive. I got a punch in the gut on my last ride, but I never got major air. And I didn't think it was that rough.
And there aren't vastly differing opinions on Dipper, you're just wrong :-P
One of the main reasons you get such differing opinions is because wooden coasters do JUST that...they vary. Seat to seat, ride to ride, day to night, a different experience every time. That's a MAJOR reason why many of us "purists" prefer the wooden coasters... ;)

Another thing to look at is the economy. While neither state has a vibrant economy right now, Florida is far closer to being "vibrant" than Ohio, thus making it easier to consider a project like this. Ohio / Midwest is really hurting in the current conditions.
For the most part you are correct but there is one exception with Ohio....Columbus !! Everytime Forbes does those lists as to which city "dosen't allow recessions" or whatever usually Columbus is on the list. But even with that city's "healthy economy" ( I have heard it really isn't all that ), I doubt the Columbus Zoo/Zoombezi Bay would be interested in the Starliner.
Kinda surprised though that Indianapolis Zoo hasn't expressed interested in the Starliner though since their zoo already has a coaster though a kiddie one but Indy has yet to enter a recession** and there are a ton of coaster fans in Indianapolis..it could work.
**if you choose to believe those "Indianapolis is not in a recession" posts on such sites as www.city-data.com .

See, there's my problem. I didn't think Dipper was violent or aggressive enough. In general, most standard out and back configurations aren't aggressive enough for me. I'm interested to see how El Toro does in this category.
Calling El Toro aggressive is an understatement. Not sure I'd call it violent or rough (definitely not rough), but I came off it in a giddy stupor.
It's very aggressive up until the last hop or 2. They aren't extreme, but by that point, I kind of need to catch my breath. YMMV.
I will get to finally find out for myself on Sunday.
I'm making a return to Lake Compounce tomorrow night, for my first visit since 2001, I believe. I have yet to experience Boulder Dash in its new form, so that should be awesome, too. I'm really looking forward to the Graveyard.

I'm not sure if they would buy up a coaster like that. There would be room for it, but they would have to squeeze it in somewheres. Perhaps one of these days but they just don't come across to me as a Zoo that is about the rides but more about the animals which has always been their strong selling point.
