Star Flyer: Coasters just don´t thrill anymore

I remember seeing pics of that thing and thinking "You've got to be kidding me!" That is, by far, the most frightening ride concept I have ever seen.

That said, sign me up. I'll be at Old Town if they get one of these!

Given how far off the ground it goes, I'd honestly expect a more idiot-proof restraint system here in lawsuit happy America. Looks amazing, though.

In one of the pics (with the chicks) you can see that there is as well a lap safety belt. The "crotch chain" can alledgedly only be opened by an operator.

When I saw first pictures of the seats, I thought that there is no way that the TÜV will give approval, seeing that there are no real sides to the chairs.

Better still: The ride moves backwards also, and by moving the chain ring up and down quickly the seats swing out up to 90°!

Those were the best pictures I've ever seen on this site. I've been to 4-5 coaster events in the state and have never seen that kind of quality in the pictures. I guess I need to go oversees!?

Then I'll take her little friend there.
Crap. This wedding ring won't come off.

I agree, the brunette was nicer looking. I'd take her over the blonde any day!
I'll be in the Prater in about a month and a half - looking forward to trying this thing :)

Let us know what you think. I'm sure we're all curious!
that blonde was hot, o snap!
Today i rode the Starflyer in Prater Park for the first time, and i have to say it's a really cool ride but it's not really a "thrill"ride. The somewhat thrilling thing is that it's high, but when in the ai it didn't seem to be that high as i expected.
When boarding you are tied to the seat by a simple safety-belt (about which our ride-op said we could just untighten it when up in the air), and by a metalbar connected to the seat between your legs by a small chain.
Then you move a few meters up and start cruising. Then the star moves up to the top of the tower and turns faster ... the excursion (?!? angle to the vertical position) is i guess 45 degrees at the fastest. And then the star is moving down and up while turning. It's not dropping or suddenly rising in any ways; it's a chain-carrousel high up in the air and moving up and down between i guess 40 and 60 meters.

All in all it's great fun riding it, and thrilling to people who won't trust simple seats hang up by chains or people with acrophobia. Anyways it gives a great view over the whole park.

ps: The strange thing at the installation in Prater is that there's one seat that can rotate around it's own axis because of a special mounting to the star. The ride-op said he doesn't know why it's only one, but maybe the tried to test something here. Would be a cool addition to the ride. And my friend was lucky enoght to chose that seat ...
