Stampida accident (Today's Rollback)

I've not heard of this incident. Can anyone fill me in on what happened to Stampida in 1997 where someone died? Does this accident have anything to do with the reason they have trim brakes on the first drop too?

Thanks.

It took me 10 seconds to search Google to find this:

"The investigation by the Guardia Civil confirms that the death of Antonio David Vila Campos, 32, of the Canary Islands, was due to his particular physical characteristics (weighing more than 264 lbs. with a height of nearly 6 ft.)

Antonio David was thrown from the car at the start of the first curve without the safety bar coming open. In addition, ride attendants
checked that his restraints were securely locked before starting the fatal trip. Investigative sources explained that because of his obesity, he might have been improperly positioned thus allowing him to be ejected by centrifugal force."

Google. It's your friend. Use it ;)

Why bother using Google when someone else can use it for you?
Sounds like Raven and Perilous Plunge together.

I don't know why it didn't cross my mind to Google it. I always do. I visited that Rides 911 accidents Web site and saw nothing, so I assumed it wasn't well documented.

Thanks, 'Moosh, er Google. ;)

Unfortunately, the Stampida accident led to adding trim brakes on the first drop. At least HW hasn't done that (yet)....
The "Stampida incident" (sounds like a Guns nĀ“Roses album title) happened shortly after the park opened.
The ride was closed for a full season. I rode it for the first time in 1998 and there were no trims. They did add new restraints but the trims must have come later.

Apart from the nice, suprising duelling encounter, I was not that impressed with the ride. The layout is nicely stretched, but I felt something was missing.

Harry, I hope they never do. Raven is so wicked awesome without trims.

The accident on Raven was due to the rider's actions, not the forces created by the ride. There is no need to add trims anywhere on the ride.
