Out of total curiousity....whats the forbidden site?

It's Sidewinder.com but you've probably never heard of it ;)

Great one Moosh!!! I figured with E...whatever the name is, S&S were about to open a whole can of worms(or sidewinders ;)) on the place. It looks so smooth. All of this could have been averted if everyone placed the guide wheels on the outside of the track...except for the woodies. *** Edited 8/4/2006 4:53:45 AM UTC by mudinthevayne***

Ride count on the Voyage: 40 Most consecutive rides on the Voyage: 36 Day after thigh bruises from airtime: Priceless
mudinthevayne: Smoothness isn't really due to where the wheels are located - inside or out....that's minor compared to several other factors (some of which Arrow still hasnt' seemed to figure out :) )

Take this with a grain of salt, but while at Kenny Kon, I was told by an older ACE'r who also works at Kennywood that all the S&S Swings installed this year are having the same problems. (5 I think) He said the engineers made a change from the original design (it's at Thorpe i think) Anyway, whatever this design change was, it didn't work out to well, and now all the swings installed this year already were or are being retrofitted back to the original design. I can only assume this would be an out of pocket expense for S&S.

Like I said, take it with a grain of salt. I do not know the gentleman who told me this.

I never really understood why S&S bought Arrow, I think it may have been more for status than anything else. I hope S&S are not in trouble, they've made some great tower rides, I think one problem is that every park who wants one might have got one by now. They have a pretty limited catalouge, maybe it was abit like the mobile phone, huge sales, then they slowed down because the majority of people who wanted one had already purchased them.

I can't think of many parks in the UK who would get planning permission to build a tower ride - who haven't already got one.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

And keep in mind, a lot of companies now have drop tower rides. Intamin, Huss, Zamperla, etc. What company is Waldameer buying from?

Drop towers are now a little old-hat. Hell, even Disney has a few (including S&S) in California Adventure! I think we're getting to the point where the public sees drop towers in the same light as chute-the-chutes... it's common for parks to have them, and drop towers are almost expected these days.

With the whole S&S - Arrow discussion I thought I might share an observation. In 2005 when S&S built Powderkeg for SDC, the park's Arrow mine train was retracked at the bottom of the largest hill. Then this year I noticed that Excalibur at Valleyfair has new track, with a spine. Is this new also? Is S&S throwing in new track their customers' old Arrow's?

Prowler. Opens May,2 2009.
