SRM and Camping

Vater's avatar
I sincerely apologize if this is in violation of the ToS, but I really don't know how else to pose this question. Those of you who are attending SRM this year and are planning on camping, where are the best places to do so? My fiancee and I are hoping to find a good (and inexpensive) campground where at least some Buzzers are going to be spending Friday and/or Saturday nights. I promise, we're not lunatics (at least not clinically ;) ).

Have you ridden a Toboggan?

You mean a campground other than Lake Rudolph?

Which is located right next door and has a link to it from the Holiday World "Hotels & Camping" page?

They are reasonably priced ($31/night), well managed, and have quite a few reservations from enthusiasts for SRM weekend.

Lake Rudolph is great. We camped there last year, and had a blast.

Lake Rudolph is higly recommended by me as well. One of the nicest campgrounds I've been to, and only the Knoebels campground rivals it in ease of access to the park...but the bathroom/shower facilities at LR are nowhere near as "rustic" as the ones at Knoebels...which is probably a good thing...)

Lake Rudolph is were you want to camp. Located right next to the park with a shuttle to the park, but is within a reasonable walking distance. The bathrooms are the cleanest I've ever encountered at any campground. Sites are nice size and the ones around the lake are nicely shaded. Didn't have time to check out the whole campground, but they have a lot to offer besides being next to one of the best parks in the country.

While we're on the subject, I've got a campsite at Lake Rudolph and am looking for someone to share it with me (They allow 2 tents per site). Or, if you've got a site you'd let me share I'll cancel my reservation. It would be about $30 + tax for Friday and Saturday for your half.

Either way, I've got to do this trip on the cheap.

Speaking of cheap, anyone leaving from Chicago early Friday afternoon, stopping at IB on the way back Sunday want to share a ride?

Maihama, Maihama Desu.

I checked with the folks at Lake Rudolph...they still have several rental RVs available for SRM (the cabins are all booked). Plus there are plenty of tent and RV sites still available.

Hint--ask to be "lakeside" or in the upper campground--that will save lots of steps if you're walking back after ERT.

See you soon! Paula

Still looking ThemeDesigner?

If not anybody else want to share a site for SRM? I've got one reserved but my wife can't go so it's just me looking to split the cost.

Yeah, I have that one sewn up. ;) There will be lunacy those nights, but all will be worth it. Just look for the "tripowered" RV. That's where the real party is....

Gecko,

My site is full, sorry. Unless you want to sleep in Sparky897's tent.

Saturday morning is definately going to hurt. I probably wouldn't bother getting up early if not for ZINGA.

8 days. Just 8 days.

I wonder if Mick Foley will be making a return visit. I saw him at Santa's Lodge the Sunday after last year's SRM -- were checking out at the same time. I chatted with him briefly. Nice guy, and he'd had a BLAST (which isn't surprising).

It would be cool if he did come back as I definitely had a blast chatting with him last year.

So who did he show up as?

Mick Foley, or Mankind, or Cactus Jack, or Dude Love? ;)

Arena football has arrived in the Windy City. Go "Chicago Rush"

Chitown,

He showed up as himself... ;) He was hosting a few kids from the "Make a Wish Foundation" during the day.

I guess from what I heard from Paula last year, he was originally going to bring his kids, but they backed out...Mick called the park and asked Paula if it would be alright if he brought a few Make a Wish kids, instead...Like Paula or HW would have ANY issue with that!!!

Also, from Paula a couple of months back, Mick will not be showing up this year...
