FYI, because I know some of you were probably concerned, Sprint got nailed bad, nationally, with this latest Internet work that was out there. Our servers were unaffected, but were still reduced to paper weights while Sprint sorted it out.

I'll have to look this 'worm" up... I noticed shortly after CBuzz went down that my site (on Sprint-owned Earthlink) also went down for a time. Weird stuff.
Glad you're hardware/software wasn't affected Jeff.

The worm infected servers running MS SQL Server (the database software running this, and many other sites). It's surprising that it caused such a problem because few machines on the Net (relatively speaking) would be running it. Not only that, but the vulnerability is six months old and should have long since been patched.

I heard Hong Kong, but that's really neither here nor there.
I was affected too, and it was pretty bad. Jeff's right - the problem was completely avoidable if some server managers had taken the time to patch up their SQL.
I guess it takes a stupid occurance such as this to raise awareness to the problem. It shouldn't come to this, but I bet a lot more people will be a lot more vigilant now.

It doesn't help that MS doesn't write installers for most of the SQL patches, and they're a pain to implement.

Bye Bye, SFNE Freak. Learn to think before you speak, especially if it has to do with race.
