Spontaneous coaster trips...

Who here has taken a spur of the moment, not thought out, trip to an amusement park? Today I was sitting in my data structures class, feeling really bored, and I thought to myself, I haven't been on the Giant Dipper in 7 years! I can't even remember what it's like! After class, I ran to my car, and drove down to San Diego (about 100 miles from me) and I rode that sucker 7 times! What an awesome ride, especially in the back seat. Over the fourth dip I got an amazing amount of airtime, and the first drop was something else! I would say it was definitely worth the trip. Anyway, has anyone else taken a spontaneous trip?
When I get a car this summer, I think I can expect lots of spontaneous trips to DL, KBF and SFMM!! Especially KBF and DL!
Yeah, Belmont Babe and I have done that. We look at each other and say "road trip". Usually it's a quick jaunt done to Mission Beach and a few trips on the Giant Dipper. Being twenty-five minutes away has it's advantages. *** This post was edited by Dutchman on 3/13/2001. ***

are you ready to go vertical?...V2 SFMW 2001 ...
Last year myself and and some friends (CoAsTeRDaN and Janic) planned at Memorial Day weekend trip to Holiday World, SFKK, and Camden Park. After our day at Holiday World we heard that Sonny at PKI was running all that day and possibly will the next day. We called the infamous Sonny hotline from our hotel room in Louiseville and the recording said "Good news, Son Of Beast WILL be running". I hadn't been to PKI before so I was for it. The next day we drove the 2, 2 1/2 hours to PKI. We opted for a few hours at SFKK instead of a full day. We later found out a half day was plenty for us at SFKK. *** This post was edited by coasterpunk on 3/13/2001. ***

Steph and I made our first trip to Kennywood that way. I was getting the shakes after a long winter. Only by chance did it happen to be preview day at Kennywood. My first ride on the 2000 season was on Steep Phantom (ouch!), followed by all but the Racer and Exterminator, which they didn't have running.

Hi Coasterpunk... is that CoAsTeRDaN the Alpengeist legend?

Glad to hear half a day will do at SFKK... mainly just going for the season's pass, but Chang looks interesting. The Easter trip includes WoF and PKI also.

Our summer trip is a little crowded with 11 parks in 11 days (2 days at CP) and 2200 miles. Knoebels and Astroland are quick stops for the coasters only. (Knoebels will probably be like the 2hrs at KW last year... not enough). KW gets a full day this year.

Any suggestions on which of these parks can be done in half a day - SFAm, SFGAdv, DP, SFDL, PCWland, and SFWoA?

Thanks,
Dan
Last winter we had the big Ice storm, Instead of riding it through we decided to fly down to orlando for the weekend we have season passes to disney so its a bit easier that way. Best weekend we had had in a while, I have to plan everything so this was spur of the moment and made it alot less stressfull.

I wish I had the means to make a spontaneous coaster trip! Right now we're just trying to figure out where to go for the summer...

Don't forget the POLL! Less than 10 VOTES to go!
Like 5 years ago, we got in the car and didn't know where we were going. After like an hour of driving east, we decided to go to CP. When we finally got there it was like noon and it was raining. My parents decided not to go in and we drove to Cleveland and went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I reall wanted to go to CP. That day sucked.

Yep the one and only CoAsTeRDaN.

For short park stops I'd say you can probably knock all the coasters at Knoebels off in about an hour the Whirlwind and HSTC are usually nearly walk ons and Phoenix and Twister may have a 20 minute wait. You also want to check out the Haunted Mansion, Bumper Cars, and ledgendary Flyers in your time there. Food is also very good and cheap compared to other parks.

Dorney is about an hour and a half from Knoebels so you could hit that the same day as well. get to Dorney befor the water park closes for your shortest wait times. Hercules, Thunderhawk, and Lazer usually have the shortest lines. Expect your waits to be longest for Talon and Steel Force. Other things to try here are the Skyscraper and possibly Dominator. I'd skip Dominator if you went on the one at CP though.

From Dorney you can easily get to NYC and Coney Island. It's about a 2 hour drive if that from Dorney. They are open late so you could possibly hit all 3 of these in a day.
