Splashin' Safari reopens...a few rides at a time

Well, today we had a Tornado Warning, so the fun continues...

Here's the latest news release: A portion of Indiana’s largest water park reopened Sunday afternoon. Splashin' Safari has been closed since a flash flood raged through the 11-acre water park and filled it with mud and debris Tuesday evening. “Sunday afternoon, we reopened The Wave, Watubee* and Monsoon Lagoon,” says Holiday World & Splashin' Safari president Will Koch. “Over the next several days, we expect to be able to open additional Splashin' Safari rides.” The cleaning process included pumping muddy water out of all the pools, cleaning them, and refilling them with fresh water. In addition, all the electric motors and pumps in the water park had to be dried out, and their seals replaced. At one point Tuesday evening, parts of the water park were under three feet of flood water. Meanwhile, severe weather is forecast for the area again this evening. Updates regarding Splashin' Safari are posted on the parks’ homepage: www.holidayworld.com.

Thanks again for all the support! Paula

i was at the park during the tornado warning...jeff hammersly told us about the warning before they made the announcement over the intercom. i was really impressed with how efficient the park handled getting everyone notified and in a building. everything appeared to run smoothly during the tornado warning.

we ended up heading to the gift shop next to paul revere's midnight ride and hanging out in there until the tornado warning passed.

sort of a crazy afternoon...

We had a tornado warning today, but I'm in Oklahoma. I was playing in the sprinkler at the moment.

How are the buildings, i.e., the gift shop and the food stands? Any major losses there?

The buildings, post-cleanup, are fine.

Today we'll have Zinga, Jungle Racer, The Wave, Watubee and Monsoon Lagoon open...so we're getting there. :)

Thanks, Paula

And fast!

I was there yesterday and it was such a beautiful day! I am glad Mother Nature decided to lay off for a bit. Splashin Safari was much fun, despite the few slides being down. The new Jungle Racers are awesome!

It's obvious that the HW staff has worked hard to get SS cleared up. The park looks amazing!

Much thanks to you and your staff, Paula. :-) It was an awesome day, and Legend and Raven are running just as sweet as last year. :-D

Sorry I didn't get to say hello yesterday, Tina. Glad you enjoyed Jungle Racer. :)

Did you see Elvis? Some Guest who looked a bit like John Kerry was strutting around in a sparkly jumpsuit and cape. Mrs. Koch and I just couldn't bring ourselves to go over and talk to him, we were all shook up and giggling too much!

Okay Moosh...Bill...others...let the punfest begin!

Yes we did see him, but he was in a black shirt, black jeans, and cowboy boots. I guess this was his "street" clothes? lol. He still had the glasses and hair going on though. :-D

We saw him near the main entrance and again on Liberty Launch!

We did get to catch up with Mrs. Koch for a bit but she never mentioned him. lol.

It was quite the sight nonetheless. :-D

Or would that be a Holidog?
