Spiraling Spike on the Impulse...

Tuesday, November 6, 2001 2:01 PM
In the construction of the first few impulses, I never really paid attention. With the impulse rumors flying around Cedar Point, I was wondering how the spike is manufactured.

The majority of the spike stands alone with no supports, so is the spike manufactured in one piece, or several pieces like any other? It seems that one piece would be very difficult to transport. If there are several pieces, issn't there a lot of stress on the fasteners that hold them together?

It's just several sections, like any other part. If you look around, I seem to remember really good close-up shots of the SFMW installation with the twists sections on the ground. Search the news section... it's there somewhere.

Yeah, I know www.sfmwonline.com had some very nice pictures of Vertical Velocity's spike parts. Like this: http://www.sfmwonline.com/construction.042101.10.php
