Space Mountain Pics

Now that this story of this Doctor being injured on the head during a ride on space mountain, I was wondering if anyone has a picture of the inside of Space mountain with the lights on. Or maybe a diagram. Either Disneyworld or Disneyland would be fine.

If you haven't rode Raging Bull in the back row you haven't lived. The feeling on that first drop cannot be explained in words!

The only picture I've seen of Space Mountain's inside was on a CD-ROM that Disney put out a couple of years ago. It was all about WDW in Florida and it had a bunch of trivia and behind the scenes stuff. It had a nice photo of Space Mountain with all the lights on, and it looked like a giant erector set.
I've got a video of a Space Mountain (DLP) evacuation, if you would like, I can upload the file.

Thats the nice thing about a completely dark inside coaster, who cares about looks. It can save money.

Space Mountain looks different than I thought it would with the lights on. Why do they turn on lights anyways?

lose one coaster, lose all coasters, than you will lose yourself

So your are saying its cheaper to build a 183 foot building around a coaster then it is to make a coaster "look nice"?

Brent who says industrial looking coaster like Deja Vu and Whizzer are very attractive.

Well Monto58, it's rather hard to clean up a completely dark compound. I wouldn't recommend evacuation people in dark surrounding, because they will panic. That's why they turn the lights on..

I have heard that when the emergency stop is hit, the lights turn on.

I am bringing this topic up again because, yes, when the e-stop on the ride is hit, the lights come on. I took about 10 pics from the TommorowLand Transit Authority ride the minute I learned that Space Mountain was down. As soon as I get them scanned I will start uploading them to the pics of space mountain on this site.

Wow. It's amazing what a little "Disney Magic" can do to such a freaky looking coaster. It looks to have far more supports than it could possibly need, but then again it was probably a fairly revolutionary design for when it was built.

And no, i doubt the darkness concept had anything to do with hiding the aesthetic grossness of the coaster; I'm sure Disney planned it to be inside all along. What better to emphasize a space theme? (Whether or not Arrow took liberties with their design because they knew no one would see the ride is up for debate however.)

PS: Random Space Mt. fact - the giant meteors that are projected onto the ceiling (at least in the FL version) are just photos of chocolate chip cookies. Mmm... no wonder why I always get hungry in that line... :)

It's so true... Yet the amazing thing is, even when you know, the effect still looks pretty darn good.

At least it does to me.

A few photos I shot awhile back, during one of Space Mtns daily breakdowns ;) I've done the ride a few times with the lights on, it really detracts from the ride. The only thing "scary" is the staircase that comes within a foot of the train on the 3rd-to-the-last turn! Hopefully they'll keep the darkness on Space Mtn 2.0 at Disneyland, I'd hate to see them bust out a Paris version with all the track visable.

Were all these photos taken from TTA or did you get a special look at the ride?

All who think Mean Streak needs a match taken to it say I.
That's Disneyland's version, theres an observation deck while your in line for the ride, you can't really see anything unless the lights are on though.
Space Mountain is not an Arrow, rather from the same Vekoma Predecessor as Big Thunder Mountain.

Only one Disney coaster is an Arrow to my knowledge and that is Matterhorn.

I thought Big Thunder at Disneyland was Arrow

Matterhorn and WDW's Space Mtn are both Arrows. Iniana Jones and The Temple of Peril and Screamin are both Intamins. Primevil Whril was Rechevron and Molhulland Madness was a Mack. Every single other Disney coaster was made by Vekoma.
