space mountain @ WDW - racing?!

I'm fairly certain that Sidewinder is correct, as the Space Mountain tracks at Disney World are very different from each other.

I've been on it over 20 times, the latest being in November, and I distinctly remember the differences between them. I clearly remember one being gentle and a little slow, while the other one was suprisingly fast and intense for a family coaster.

At the moment I can't remember which was which, but I do remember them being very different.

Wow those videos are interesting. I was just thinking...when you're riding the one with the pov, doesn't the track look like Schrwazkpof(?sp?) track?
I've ridden both sides at WDW and I swear they're different layouts.

I think Arrow designed it.

Yes arrow designed it and if you ride it you can tell. That is because the ride is good but when ever the car crests a hilll in the front it "jerks" up. It has got to be the jerkiest steel coaster I have been on, not rough, just jerky. Speaking of space mountain does any one know when it was opened. It seems like all of the rides at WDW have been there forever. You say "Space Mountain" to the average joe and they say "Oh that roller coaster ride at the Disney World in the dark" But if you say "I just rode Millenium Force last week" it would be "Oh whats that? Same way with all the other mountains.Oh yeah does anyone know which side is alpha and which is omega? Thanks

No, Arrow designed the matterhorn. It was a WED (In house) design.

Valleyfair fan - They are different layouts - but just mirror images of each other. Pretty amazing how different a mirror image can feel in the dark, huh?

The left side is the original version from Disneyland, the second one is known as the fast track, which is supposed to be more thrilling than the first. The fast track seems more twisted unlike the original(left side) which seems like left turn-drop-left turn-drop-left turn-drop. Also, the Fast Track feature this circular like tunnel as well with cool red lights(that tunnel is the only easy way to differ one from the other. Disneyland also features two tracks, but the second one was not designed to be more thrilling than the first, just in the same complex. You probably noticed and hated the long line for Space Mountain. It's not really the popularity, but the fact that Disney seperates the dispatch so one train will not interupt or meet another train in a certain point. Sure, there are other trains riding at the same time as you, but I Disney was very clever and precise in hiding anything that will distract riders from the actual ride. Though we mays see dueling effects as thrill, Disney does not want to frighten people(probably why Prima Whirl doesn't really deul either.) Also, as an illusion, there is some track on Disneyland's version that riders will never travel on. It's was kind of like Opryland's Chaos, which was an indoor coaster with track inside that you never go over giving you the illusion that the ride is ending yet(I don't have a picture to show you what I mean but to borrow one...here) I think Disney was aiming to make the ride seem endless in a futuristic way, and it's one of the effect that I really like about the ride.
