Space City theme park in Alabama never made it out of the 60's

Space City USA is the biggest thing that never happened in Huntsville. For a brief, shining moment in the early 1960s, Huntsville was going to have an amusement park that rivaled Disney World. Actually, it would rival Disneyland, because Disney World was still basically swampland.

Read more from The Huntsville Times.

Very interesting to read through and see the pictures of the biggest thing that never happened. What an unbelievable waste of 2 Million dollars.

Having lived in Huntsville, its great town and the space theme would have been perfect with Marshall Space Flight Center and the US Space and Rocket Center/Space Camp there now. Looks like a bunch of people without a clue of how build/run a park.

I actually know where the Space City sign is. Nice to get the scoop on the history.
