South Bass Island near CP, how is it?

I just received at work an 87 page booklet about Put-in-Bay and South Bass Island. By looking at the map they provide, it seems relatively close to CP. If and when I make my pilgrimage to Sandusky to visit CP, would it be worth spending a little time on this island? It seems to have alot of history and I love historical places.

So if you have been there, can you give me some info on it and if its worth checking out?

By day, yes, it has some very cool things to visit. By night, it is an adult party pretty much everywhere. Enjoy yourself, but leave the kids at home!

Although it's been a while, I have been to both, and they are quite enjoyable.  I remember we did a winery tour at Put-In Bay.  One of the most facinating things there is the world''s largest geode.  (You know the hollow rocks that when split open are covered with crystals on the inside)  Well, this one is LARGE.  In fact, many people can stand inside it at the same time!  Really facinating stuff.  BTW, I took the Jet Express there.  It was a fast and convenient way to go.

My band had a weekend-long gig at the Boathouse at Put-in-Bay. Unfortunately, it was during the first weekend that the mayflies appeared. Everything on the island just gets COVERED by these lil suckers. It was really disgusting. I accidentally drank one that was hiding in my pina colada.

Now, I know that this is a family website, but let me tell you...there's nothing "family" going on at nights on the weekends on that island. I could tell some very good stories that I'm sure would be deleted immediately. Suffice to say, there are some girls that work on the island that are very friendly to guys in bands. I give the whole place a thumbs-up.

Doesn't it seem as though morons always have the caps lock on?

Put-in-Bay is very close to CP, and I think worth the trip. Crystal Cave that was mentioned above also includes a tour of the Heinemann Winery with its price. Can we say free samples? (only 2 though if I remember.) There is also another cave Perry's Cave right across from it. Also there are a lot of historical spots including the ruins of a once gigantic hotel, and Perry's Monument. You can get a good view of all of Lake Erie from the top as well as the Canadian and US shores. And the island is known for its night life. Lots of bars, including the world's longest at the Beer Barrel Saloon....Geez, I'm starting to sound like a brochure, but i've been there so many times its not even funny.

As far as getting there, if you're staying in Sandusky, the easiest is the Rocket, which leaves from the Cedar Point Marina and Downtown Sandusky. You have to check the times though, I don't remember if the Rocket has any late night trips back.....it should though.. If not the Jet Express in Put-in-Bay is a good option too. I know they have late returns. Both are about the same price.

Anyways, hope I was some help

I think I had many good time at Put-In-Bay, but I don't really remember.
And if you're hitting the Lake Erie Islands, Kelley's Island has a lot of interesting stuff, also.  In addition to some pretty neat glacial grooves and an old mansion, Kelley's also has a good bar scene on weekend nights.

Anyone have a website or other means of contact to find out more about this place ? Sounds like it might be a good place to stay when I go to CP this summer.
