But there's only one- one German loop! Ah, ah ahhh.
I doubt that SDL would go anywhere, especially because it's not taking up any valuable real estate. It's not a thrilling ride but it's a lot of fun and I'd hate to think of the park without it.

LOL John. But there's a helix too, so according to some, it would have two German loops! Ah ah ahhh. :)

I'm sure most all of you will disagree (not John I'm sure), but I don't think any ride at Hersehy is something I would consider "thrilling." I guess I have a high threshold for thrills. It's all just "fun" to me. The only rides that give me a true "thrill" are free falls and skycoasters.

I didn't find anything at HP thrilling, though this was before Storm Walker.

Lightning Racer is one of very VERY very few coasters that scores above an 8 on the Gilmanometer. That puts it on par with rides like Magnum, Screechin' Eagle, X, KY Rumbler, and other such fun coasters.

There is a mid-course, a "reduction" area (parallel to the Comet), and two more block sections before you come into the station (today, these act together so the average guest wouldn't realize it). So three trains would be possible to run.

Comet and Rob are correct, SDL did operate with three trains at one point. I also remember 77 when the ride was built, it routinely had a 2-3 hour wait on most Saturdays.

The MCBR was added at some point in the 90s, I think at the same time the wheelsets were changed (after the Edmonton Mall accident). The new wheelsets allowed for a quicker run and the brake run at the end of the ride was deemed to short for a 'comfortable' stop, hence the addition.

I also ride it when I visit HP for nostalgia purposes if anything else.

Fever I really enjoy the Simpsons. It's just a shame that I am starting to LOOK like Homer.
There were few coasters in the old days that were designed to run more than 2 trains other than the racers. One non-racer that could do this was the West View Dips.

The West View Dips had a blocking brake just after the hairpin turn at the far end of the ride and an electric light display to keep track of where the trains were. There was a time when this coaster ran with as many as 4 trains (possible because the station had separate loading and unloading areas). During my lifetime, however, it was never run with more than 2 trains.
