Son rode first coaster today!

A 5 year-old not ready? CBaby was doing WT by then!

But Da Midget? Not so much. After weeks of teasing, threats and persecution from Big Sis last season, it finally took a combined double-dare--you ride this and I'll ride that--to get her back on WT. After she finally got a ride in, she was just fine. It's all she talks about in the off-season.

CP - He's tall enough...he's just too scared for anything bigger than a kiddie coaster right now. When he shows an interest and asks to go on something bigger we'll take him, but we're not about to force him. He already watches his older 7-yr-old brother ride the big ones [including X at age 6] so I'm sure he'll want to ride soon.

When I was 5, Jr. Gemini almost made me cry. I was still a 'white knuckle' rider in my early/mid 20's holding on for dear life on every coaster I rode.

My daughter rode MF the year she was 5 and couldn't quit screaming "this is fun!" the entire ride.

Pssh, kids. :)

Kids' fears aren't subject to any given logic.

Spinning rides and coasters wouldn't bother CBaby at 5...but the log flume? Fuggaboutit.

Da Midget wouldn't touch WT, but was on Steel Venom the minute she was tall enough. Mileage always varies.

My niece had ridden SDL not once but twice when she was 7. The second time, she insisted on taking her great aunt with her in the front seat. This past year, she went to ride with my brother at HP in the Dark, and it bothered her. My brother said he thinks she got upset seeing Great Bear, thinking that was the same coaster she was going on. I think the difference was the first time was a sunny summer day as opposed to a sort of spooky October evening. That and she thinks too much-- she lets her imagination run away with her.
On our way to Carowinds last weekend, we had a lot of wind in Charlotte during the approach. At one point, we got actual airtime during a turbulence-induced drop. Erica (my six year old) starts laughing out loud and talking about how much fun this "bonus ride" is---much to the annoyance of the woman in front of us busy saying the Rosary. The woman behind us muttered something about not signing up for an amusement park. At that point, we had to come clean. *** Edited 4/26/2005 12:55:02 PM UTC by Brian Noble***
