Yesterday I was at PKI for the ACE walkback. However, Son of Beast, we were told, would be down to at least 1 o`clock. While on The Beast, I spotted a crane by the top of the second drop. I don`t know if SOn eventually opened, because I ate lunch at 1, caught Forbidden Magic and left. Today, when I drove by the park, the crane was still near Sonny. Does anyone have a clue what`s wrong with it?

I dunno, but it did open around 2 yesterday...
I think they have the crane up there sometimes to check the track gauge, etc. It is still a massive wood coaster, and you are gonna have problems with it. I'm impressed PKI has kept it running so good.

They just need new trains...Those Premier ones are the most uncomfortable ones on Earth!

Son of Beast has bad trains its small
Friend of mine just got back from PKI and rode SOB twice. He told me after the second ride he said he would never ride it again. Lots of bruises in all the wrong places.
He told me it was rougher than the roughest ride he has ever had on Mean Streak. That can't be good!
that really sucks. i would think that SOB would atleast be halfway enjoyable. arent they supposed to know these things anyway before they even open it to the public? whats the point in 2 months of testing if u r just gonna let peeps get hurt anyway?
About that roughness comment....SOB sure is temperamental, smooth, brutal, smooth, brutal. You never know what you are going to get. First Drop reported that RCCA bid for the 198 foot Colossus in Germany, but they lost to Intamin with their awesome sounding new wood track/train system. I can't imagine how great SOB would be if they had Intamin retrack it and put their new wood trains (similar to MF/S:ROS trains) on it!

That would be heaven! I rode SOB twice, once in very back once in very front. And the ride in the front really hurt! I walked off slowly because both of my knees were severly bruised! No kidding or exaggeration!

It's not that bad. I'd swear you are all little kids or stick people. ;) The Legend and The Boss are much rougher. If you don't like it, don't ride it, but quit whining and let the rest of us enjoy a great coaster.
I starting to wonder if this site should be called "Coasterb*tch" instead of Coasterbuzz with all the complaints !

Current favorite coasters:
Wooden: 1) Beast 2) Raven 3) Son of Beast 4) The Boss 5) The Legend
Steel: 1) Raging Bull 2) Millennium Force 3) V2 4) Wild Thing 5) Mr. Freeze
Joe Carroll, you try being 6'2"-6'3" and above and see how far your knees go in a SOB train. I'm not saying SOB is a bad ride, it is a superb ride, just lousy trains.

As far as I can tell (after only 5-6 rides on SOB) is there are really only two problems, neither critical, with SOB, and it sounds like PKI is still addressing one of them: the coaster bangs at the top of the second hill - right before it drops into the first helix. Apparently that's what they worked on in Sonny's first off-season, and a little more work - raising the hill and increasing the angle of the banking, would make it track incredibly smoothly considering we're talking about a 218' tall WOODIE here. The other "situation" really does involve the trains. A little softer padding on the bars where they press against your thigh and shin (gotta keep the nice Z-posture). Address those two issues, and I'd drive from FL daily for the ACE walkback - kidding, but not by much.

Does anyone have any information about the crane? I believe that's what the question was about.

I did not start this topic to bash Sonny. I started it to find out why Son of Beast was closed until 1:00 in the afternoon, when every other time I`ve been to the park this year, Sonny has opened at ten.

please dont bash my coaster :-) But the reason why its so bumpy is cause you are above the wheels. sit in the middle of a car. its a lot smoother. Oddly enough it works. You should really try it, I have done it in about every row (except front just cause I dont want to wait 30minutes) and that the middle row of each car is VERY smooth. But, I prefer middle row first car and middle row back car. Maybe that could help some of you. But. I am going to PKI Monday, I can tell you then if the crane and stuff is still there

I'm 6'4" and 225lbs. It's a tight fit and sure, the trains are a little uncomfortable, but I agree with Joe Carroll, The Legend and Raven are just as rough. They are each distinctive and fantastic rides, and I love riding all of them. Being my size, I've never had much problem with SOB, it's supposed to be a wild ride. Just keep your hands up, knees together and JUST ENJOY THE RIDE!!!!
I think SOB is a very good woodie, however I do not like the trains at all. They could use a bit more padding, and the lap bars are quite restrictive if you are either a taller or bigger person. Dunno, I love the ride tho :)
I went to PKI yesterday (30th) & SOB didnt open til 1, again. They are doing maintanence. I dunno why but thats all the workers knew. So if you go and see a crane there, it probably wont open til 1. I suggest go to Guest Services and ask when they plan on opening. We got to do ACE walk back for The Beast though. Was nice.
