The Son of Beast roller coaster has been declared safe, but debate over whether it's "enjoyable" prompted Kings Island to keep it closed through year's end, officials said Monday. Park officials won't decide what to do with it until the off-season.

Or, leave it up as a reminder to all what happens when you just chase records and quickly, poorly develop a ride.
A new set of Trains will look nicer and be more attractive
However it is my belief that the "track" is what makes it such a rough ride,
accompanied with the speed. The ride simply shakes itself out of a "comfortable
Tolerance"! I love wooden roller coasters for the same reasons people don't ride themI had the luxury of riding SOB in it's maiden season, and would say
that it was comparable to how Mean Streak is currently! The should put a real ejector
seat from a F-16 and call it Son of Top Gun, Then it would be worth saving!!

To the best I can recall, I actually never got to ride it WITHOUT the loop. Part of me would like that chance just to see if it did improve things any, but honestly it doesn't sound like it did...
Honestly, Greg, you would've thought it was an improvement...an improvement from your spine detaching from your body before to rough as hell, but survivorable right now.
1-2 on the red train was actually not all that terrible. My dad who has a bad lower back rode it about a week before it closed in 1-2 red and thought it was good and felt fine. The rose bowl was the worst part and the rest was about the same as your standard woodie without a recent re-tracking IMO.

I hate to predict the demise of this ride, but its on its way down and out more than likely.
You wouldn't be the first with that prediction. Also, it's safe to say that this ride was on it's way out several seasons ago. The ball is just rolling a lot faster than ever. With it now in CF's hands, I'm sure they wish to be done with this PR nightmare as much as anyone.
Pass da' sizzrup, bro!
I got to ride SOB I think it was 5 times during its first season. Haven't been back to KI since (god what happened to me?). It was an "SOB" then, I can't imagine it got any better. To me the loop was the smoothest part of the ride. I really don't know why I even road it more then once. Something just seemed "unholy" about this coaster. When it come to wood, I guess there are some lines in size and speed that just should not be crossed. They could auction off who gets the first swing on the wrecking ball.
