Son of Beast at Kings Island still has uncertain future

Kings Island's luckless 13th roller coaster, shuttered for about half of last season, faces an uncertain future. Now, after dozens of riders over nine seasons have said they were hurt on the ride, Son of Beast's survival is uncertain following a recent trial in which a jury awarded a 40-year-old Defiance woman $76,364 in compensatory damages for her injuries sustained on the roller coaster three years ago.

If I would have been injured on one of my two rides on SOB throughout my many trips there, I wouldn't be at all ashamed to get myself a lawyer. Not because I am a gold digger, but because people expect a certain level of safety while on an amusement ride, and SOB shook me so hard that I saw double. I'm pretty tough, physically (lol), and I enjoy rough coasters, but SOB had me terrified that I was going to come off with broken bones.

SOB should have been either fixed or torn down the moment that they realized that it was unsafe, which I would guess was a few days before it opened.

If that happened to you, then why did you ride it a second time? ;)

lol,RGB. Many people here kept saying that it was a better experience withthe loop removed and the lighter trains. I am a very forgiving person,so I thought it would be nice to give it another chance.

Mysecond ride, which occurred the second week of the last operatingseason, was a little bit better, but was still the most painful ride Ihave ever been on.

My thirteen year old cousin loved it, by theway. During our visit, it was his favorite coaster at the park. Isn'tthat strange? That just shows that the ride isn't as painful to somepeople. We rode side-by-side, so the difference wasn't where we sat.The difference might be that he weighs 120 pounds and I weight 220pounds...I don't know.

I still think, a I have all these years, that the ride should have never even opened. Something drastic needs tobe done to the ride to make it ride-able, even more drastic than whathas already been done to it.
