I just saw the new pics of the trains for SOB. Kinda cool. Very original. Anybody have any comments? Who is this coaster being designed by? Also, are the lap bars going to be that contoured design like on B&M hypers and Itamins? Lastly, whatis the theming going to be like? (I am in hyper mode due to the 9 new pics of mf at cedarpoint. com)
Jr., Son of Beast, was designed by Werner Stengal. Stengal designed the Outer Limits at PKI & PKD and Alpengiest at BGW. He comes up with some of the most wickedest, insane, and awesome coasters. The lap bar question I don't know. Does anyone know that answer? The theme for SOB is like a King Kong movie. The area is supposed to be a military-type holding pen for Sonny. The Beast's son is captured and put in a crate (the crate for the ad at the park last year). Then the Son of Beast escapes out of it's crate(like in the picture with the busted crate opened). The riders have to hop in the train and "capture" Jr. I myself thinks it is a good theme story. I'm looking forward to April 29th. That's when Jr. is unleashed! I hope that answered some of your questions.

Alpengeist was designed and built by B&M. I could be wrong, but I don't believe Stengal had anything at all to do with it.

Quite the contrary, Stengel has had a hand in almost every steel coaster built in the past few years. Here's a link to a Stengel site (could possibly be the official one)...

Thrillride.com also has a profile of him. It said that he designed Alpengiest. When you go to Thrillride.com go to the "Designer Profile" page and click on "Werner Stengal". That's where my resource is about him designing Alpengiest. It is on a little list of some of the coasters he designed.

Wow, didn't know that. As I said, I could be wrong (and clearly was).

I do believe that the lap bars are in fact contoured. Hopefull whiplash won't be an issue. Oh wait! What am I talking about? It looks like we have 90 degree banking or something on it. I'm sorry, but when I first saw the pics of the construction crew on the first helix, I got sick. And I never get sick (unless I have an English test).
I know who Werner Stengel is.
That helix looks awesome.
WOULD SOMBODY TELL ME IF SON OF BEAST WILL BE OPEN ON THE 22nd OF APRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a cruel rumor to be spreading!!!!!!!
Yes, from what I've heard an since testing has started, I would say that's a good guess. But I'm not sure if it will be open to the public then. I know there's a season pass holders preview day on the 26th and 27th.
There is no guarentee that Sonny will open this weekend. The stormy weather today probably doesn't help. It'll be close, but don't bet the farm on it for this weekend.

I'm back folks... Called The good people at PKI today and the lady said Son of Beast will NOT open this weekend.... She said they were shooting for the middle of next week. Damn, that sucks because I'm going there Saturday... Guess I'll have to ride Poppa.
