Hey gang, I am a little confused about the Six Flags company...Who owns the company? Is it Premier Parks...or is it AOL-Time Warner...did Time Warner ever own the park..I was thinking they did because of all the Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck cartoons stuff....also, someone told me they were something $2B in debt...is this true?
thanks a lot for help!

Premier Parks bought Six Fags then Premier changed it's name to Six Flags Inc., if I remember correctly.

Yes they $2B in debt but they have $4B in assets.
Yes Premier Parks did buy Six Fags from Time-Warner.
Yeah, my brother was taking an economics class in college a while back. Right around when Time Warner sold Six Flags, he was looking at reports and telling me that they were losing an unbelievable amount of money on the chain.
Peabody and lumpy72 I think you need to add an "L" in the word Flags there. LOL! Gave me a good laugh ;)

Many years ago the Six Flags chain was bought by Bally, which at the time made video games, now is the Bally in Bally Fitness Clubs. When Marriott sold the Great America park near Chicago to Six Flags, Great America's license rights to the Warner Bros characters were part of the deal, and because of that, Warner Communications (Warner Bros parent at the time) began to acquire some stock in Six Flags. (Which is how the Warner Bros and DC characters became part of Six Flags.) Later, Time Warner (Warner Bros parent at the time) acquired the chain outright, but quickly sold it to focus on its 'core' businesses. Time Warner sold the company to, I believe, a group of executives operating as Six Flags Inc. Most recently, Premier Parks rather stunned everyone by acquiring Six Flags Inc, changing the name of their company to reflect the Six Flags brand name.

Some Six Flags questions...okay...
1) Where did the name, "Six Flags" come from?
2) What are the six flags for Darien Lake? For Kentucky Kingdom? For Geauga Lake?
3) What year did Premier Parks buy Six Flags?
4) How many wood coasters does Six Flags operate in North America?
5) How many countries does Six Flags Theme Parks operate in?
Is that enough questions for you? :)

Hi, my name is Eric, and I am a coaster junkie.
In 1999 Premiere purchased Six Flags from Time Warner. Later that year Premiere changed their name to Six Flags Corporation.
I'm fairly certain that Premier Parks bought Six Flags several years before the name change.

Actually, Eric (WildOne), I wasn't expecting answers; I just thought I'd provide some questions as requested in the thread title. :)
But since you did answer...some comments on your answers--
They DID come up with six flags for Darien Lake, specifically the flags of England, the United States, State of New York, Genessee County, Iriquois Nation, and Six Flags Theme Parks. I don't know if they ever found any for the other parks, though I suppose for Geauga Lake they could use United States, Ohio, Connecticut, City of Aurora, Bainbridge Township, and Geauga County.
The Premier/Six Flags deal had to be no later than early 1998 because that was the year of the Kentucky Kingdom conversion.
When I did a count of Six Flags wood coasters, I came up with a total of 27, but I didn't count the one at La Ronde. I think I remembered to count Frontier City, and I know I counted The Great Escape and Wyandot Lake.

Well the six flags that are flying outside the Hotel up the street from SFWoA are 3 current USA flags and 3 current Ohio state flags. Side note, at SFGAm they simply have 6 current USA flags flying.
A fairly comprensive source (
http://themeprk.home.texas.net/sfot/history/corptimeline.htm ) places Premier starting to buy the Six Flags brand in 1997 with the deal culminating with Premeir's 100% ownership April 1, 1998. Take that for what it's worth.

Maybe for 6FGL they could use flags for: Geauga Lake, 6FO, 6FWoA, Sea World, Turtle Beach(or whatever the water parkis these days) and maybe the USA, too.
One more name change, though, and they'll have enough on their own.
