Some Orlando attractions close for cold weather

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Chilly temperatures shut down some Orlando attractions on Tuesday, where the highest recorded temperature of the day was only 53 degrees. Several water parks closed, and SeaWorld waited for a minimum temperature to operate certain rides.

Next week the high is going to be 45 degrees. Last year was also cold...so much so that lizards and iguanas were dropping dead out of trees.

I would welcome the 50's up in TN. It's not going to get over freezing today and for the next week or so.

Global warming.

I remember going to meet up with a friend last year, and the only coaster running in all of Orlando was RotM (luckily that's also the best coaster in all of O-town, LOL).

Were you being sarcastic about Revenge of the Mummy? I wasn't impressed with that coaster in the least. I would prefer to have Kong back.

Gator loves him some Mummy and I have to say that I agree completely. Then again, I also love Hulk, RnRC, DD, Manta, and Sheikra, so I don't know if I'd call it the best in O-town. Probably 20% of my top 25 steel is in the central Florida. Haven't ridden HRRR but I'm told it will bring down the average. ;)

Well, when I went on The Mummy I literally walked on and even though there was no crowd I had no interest in riding again. It was just....weird. I'm with you on Hulk, Mana, Sheikra, et al. Orlando has some good rides...far better than 15-20 years ago.

I've been called an OTP-lover, and I don't dispute that. The launch on RotM leads to one *amazing* pop of air. There are a couple other decent pops, including the drop off the MCBR. The theming is on-target, and the fire-ceiling trick....just love it! I almost always seem to end up in the back of the car, and that's where "the goods" are delivered...

Fire Dragon, I'll concur with those that heap praise on the ride. Manta - best flyer I've been on (about on par with Tatsu) - but I'm not a huge fan of the breed. Hulk is right on target until you leave the misted tunnel, then it's pretty much a yawner, and too rough at that. I'm not the biggest fan of SheiKra, and while I love Montu, and Kumba when it's in good form, I consider Tampa as separate from the Orlando area..

Gator, bite your tongue :-) ! My third fav part of hulk is that curved ascent/descent after the second loop. Yummy!!

No love for RnRC? I absolutely loved that ride.

I still love the dark-ride effects, and the coaster has a nice layout....but I have to admit the last few laps have been fairly bumpy (esp. in/near the back of the train). Thankfully, it has gotten easier over time to ignore Steven Tyler... ;)

^ Could be worse. Remember the brief lived rumors about changing the theme to Justin Beiber?

haha that's funny because here in Connecticut it is about the same temp right now and I always say I want to leave New England and go to flordia because it is warm but i guess it doesn't matter hahaha

If the temps keep dropping, I had better get some snow to go with my northern temps (that I moved down here to try and avoid)! ;)

Seriously, its almost a mental game with the freezing temperatures but no snow. Low tonight is in the 20s.

I must concur with the steel coaster thoughts, especially on Mummy and Manta. I absolutely love me some Manta!
