Soaked! Developer Interview.

If you've even read through the official Atari forums, then you will know that this game has been catered to the wants of kids who enjoy the whimsical game features like peeing in the pool and the tons of unneccessary peep/ride/scenary animations.

This game was hardly created to satisfy a handful of middle-aged enthusiasts.

I would actually play this game and buy the expansion if i knew there would be some serious adjustments to the game engine to run smoothly on the average home computer.

Frontier did a really good job with the scenarios in RCT3. This was the first time in any RCT that I've actually played through them all. It was a bummer to spend all of that time with no rewards, however :(

DC2Beltz3: You CAN save scenery with your rides in Soaked.

And I agree...pee in the pool is kind of silly. But I understand what they are trying to do...just give a waterpark equivlent of people vomitting on the sidewalk, that's all.

Vomit = Pee?

Not even close.

The puking peeps were an integral part of gameplay. (cleanliness, park rating, controling ride stats, etc)

Peeing is a vanity feature. Or is there going to be an additional task for handymen that makes them add chlorine to the pools? (this is the first time I've wished these forums had the  smiley)

I see all these cute little 'easter egg', vanity type things as the same as the way you can mess with the water in RCT3. Drag your cursor around a body of water and you can make it ripple and stuff.

Has anybody played with that (or the way you can tickle peeps, or make their heads follow the cursor, or knock the feathers off the birds) more than a minute or two when you first got the game?

And if you have, do you also enjoy watching paint dry? ;)

"I want to run parks in the grand scale... not micro manage a "Lemon Chill" Stand."

Does the micro managing of the Lemon Chill Stand include rumors for future park expansion? ;)

Sorry, I just had to add that.

Roller Coaster Tycoon is still the same game despite its pretty pretty factor and bad performance.
What? Not even close. The game play is so totally unbalanced and uninteresting, and that's even after they tweaked it months after release! It's not very fun at all compared to the first two.

In the upgreade, can you have tigers go berserk, escape from their exhibit, and run amok through the kiddie section?

That would be needed if you want to do a Great Adventure recreation... at least according to local officials.

I think UBRhino has a point. The majority that buys the game will be younger kids. Us on CB make up a small portion of who will be buying this game (and not even all of us will.) But the majority will by young kids.

Is Atari going to listen to a couple people or to the lager group. You be the judge. They will make alot more mony listening to what the lager group wants.

I know I would rather see more game performance issues handled but, not as many people make up that group that wants to see that.

i'm not sure what to put here..

True, but it all depends upon the person who enjoys the game. I agree certain features are annoying. I think the first 2 are much better than the 3rd, but I still find the 3rd fun! I will probably buy soaked based on the major features it offers!

I've always wanted some midway games to be included.

Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.
^^ I've e-mailed them about that for an expansion on 2. I thought it would be cool to have like a basketball shot thing. But whats the point if the game doesn't even run. *** Edited 5/6/2005 2:18:09 AM UTC by Corkscrewy***

Couldn't of expressed it better Corkscrewy! ;) (By The Way I have mixed feelings about the game, I want it for the features, but don't because it runs like crap.)
Ouch, the game already is slow on my system, i want this but can i run it?
All depends on the system specifications on your computer.
I've been to many other websites where people complain about the exact same things that we do here. The only people who like the game seem to be those on the official Atari & some other fan sites.

Unfortunately when ever someone critizes the game there they are in the minority, and are jumped on and ridiculed. If the people from Frontier/Atari ever left the safety of their forums, where they can do nothing wrong, they will see that the small group of fanboys is actually the minority.

The way I see it there are a couple ways to get them to listen to us:

1) don't buy the expansion pack, unless you hear and see proof that it addresses alot of the issues we want. It will be hard to do, but once it starts hurting Atari they'll realize they were listening to the wrong people.

2) start writting letters. don't mess around with the forum, write the atari and frontier development teams, let them know exactly what you think of their product, but do it in a professional manner. Let them know that you and others who feel the same way tried usign their forums but were made to feel unwelcome, and that they are inadvertantly not heaign what a significant portion of their fan base has to say. Don't stop at one letter, send one a week, get friends, and people you know that have the same issues to write them too, make it known that there is a large majority out there who are unhappy and their criticisms are being brushed away

I did write a 4 page letter, and got replies from Atari. Some of the things I've asked for have been discussed as being in the game, others I haven't hear about.

I'm not saying that my letter caused them to add stuff into the expansion, I was just asking for the obvious stuff we have here, and likely they would have gotten the point anyhow. But it was a start, and made me feel better.

I'd say don't buy the expansion and write a letter expressing your concert after the expansion is released and available for a few days so that you can get feedback on how it performs. I'll personally buy it and report to you guys here :).

Are you sure these things will slow down performance?

;)

There are only 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who dont.
Depends on your perspective, could slow down the game, or slow down the user. ;)
