So will Voyage be shorter with the 90* ?

Just thinking that the 90* will take less space and track than a rising fan turn, I wonder how much shorter it's going to be?

Chuck, Who's thinking The Beast might breathe a little easier now :)

Yeah, thank goodness! Considering it'd be disrespectful and terrible for anyone to break the Beast's record! ;)

Chuck - do you know for sure they flattened out that section to include the 90* turn?

Moosh, I never thought about that. I always assumed they were going to flatten it out. WHoa that would be super sweet if they don't.

What if it was a 90* banked rising fan turn? Obviously that was what Moosh implied. But that really would be "gravy"! ;) *** Edited 11/30/2005 4:57:24 PM UTC by beast7369***

I think the Beast is breathing fine because The Voyage is rougly 1000 feet shorter.

Well The Beast really isn't a coaster as it's more of a true runaway mine train on steroids. ;)

But I still like The Beast even though it's been eclipsed on my top ten list by the other two (we'll have to make it three soon) woodies in Santa Claus!!

Well the rendering of the old way showed a rising fan turn that came back to a drop in the tunnel. Kinda going past the tunnel and comming back to it. Im imagining now that it will be almost even with the tunnel and just be a quick 90* with the drop into the tunnel on the exit of that.

IM not implying that they flattened the area leading into the second 90* The rendering shows a distinct drop into the old fan turn and I think that will remain, Im implying that less track will be needed with the second 90* instead of the fan turn with a quick rise to 90* and drop out of it into the tunnel instead of a rising, slowing fan turn into a drop into the tunnel. It just seems to me things are going to be more fast paced this way.

My question was that since less area will be needed, Will the coaster be shorter? Shouldn't be more than a few feet but It wouldn't surprise me if almost 50ft is lost.

Chuck, who really don't fret on it, as it's all Gravy anyhow. *** Edited 11/30/2005 6:34:25 PM UTC by Charles Nungester***

The way I understand it the fan turn will still be there it will just have a 90* banking in part of it....

The Beast cheats having two lift hills. It is essentially two coasters stuck together. What's the longest single-lift woody?
That would be Son of Beast, at 7,032'.

Their war. Our world.
Okay, I have no idea what you're asking (or why, for that matter), but I could tell it's really important that you know this by sundown. :)

Happily, Chadwick was sitting at his computer, just waiting for me to ask.

His response follows:

As we were tweaking that curve and really getting deeper into the banking and rider forces calculations, we found that the banking needed to make that part of the ride work the way we wanted it to was in the high 70's.

So we asked Will, "If it's that close to 90*, would you just like to make it 90*?"

He said yes.

It still makes the little left-hand curve after the 90 before going into the tunnel.

The ride actually got a tiny bit longer due to minor plan tweaking to work in the extra 90*.

It's still sort of a fan curve shape, but not that tall of one.

This bank will be at 90* substantially longer than either of the other two on the ride, which was another good reason to do it.

Thanks for your interest (we *are* talking about banking, after all), Paula

Just so long as you don't disrespect Da Beast Paula ;)

-Jimvy!

Latest news out of Kings Mills is that riots are breaking out all over the city. Cars are being turned over and martial law has been declared as the National Guard has been called in concerning Voyage being a "tiny bit longer". They also apparently are pissed that people still refer to Kings Island as a "Cincinnati theme park".

Of course we're interested, and our enthusiasm is...well...compounding daily!

I sure hope I don't get another thread closed due to bad punmanship.... :)

Wow, cool. I was actually wondering the same thing myself--how are they gonna do it? Added bonuses: It's longer AND the "new" element is the longest of the three 90 degree banks. Whee!!

Actually I was asleep for the past couple hours and as I said, Not Fretting on it.

But thank you Paula and Chadwick for this informative and timely response.

I also apologize. Seems if I don't get at least one major update a week, I get the shakes, Strange urges to drive 175 miles, and nightmares during my naps that wake me up to see if anything is new going on.

Chuck, who don't fret it, Really :)

So in other words we might actually notice we are banked at 90* on this curve! ;)

That is pretty cool that you stay 90* for longer because the bank on Hades and what it seemed like for the other two on Voyage is just 90* for an instant.
Im sure everyone will notice it more. Just because your outside. Now at night in the dark? Well....... WOOHOOO!
