I'm not talking about the amount of bad news, in fact, some of it is good news. I'm talking about how so much of what we talk about here suddenly is in the negative.
I was just struck by how much of the current news is of things that are not happening...
o Playland future may not include amusement rides
o Video of trainer drowning not shown at OSHA hearing
o Kentucky Kingdom will not open in 2012
o Hersheypark might not be open a week after flooding
o Knoebels won't be closed after flooding
o Bison didn't drown at ZooAmerica 'cause they were euthanized first
o Angry Birds publisher didn't authorize Chinese theme park game
o Disney not selling time shares in Hawaii
o Mach Tower not open at Busch Gardens
And then in the discussion forum we had that whole thread about the Voyage not getting Topper Track...
No evaluation intended, just thought it was an interesting observation...

Well in contrast, Six Flags and Cedar Fair announced all of their new rides and attractions for 2012 recently. That's something to get excited about.
I guess you see what you look for. My focus has certainly been on the huge load of new rides coming next year. It feels like 2000 all over again.

I don't think he means gloomy or pessimistic. I believe he's commenting on the use of the word "not" or its equivalent.
Well in that case, I currently count three stories on the first page in News discussion with the word "not" in the title... out of 20.

I guess it's just a sign of the times. After all, all week it was reported that pieces of a satellite were NOT going to land in the US.
Things not happening are making as many headlines as things that are.
And at the same time, things happening aren't making as many headlines as they probably should (Occupy Wall Street, scientists finding something which moves faster than the speed of light, etc.)
It was just an observation that actually came out of the joking around in the Voyage/Topper Track thread. BBC nailed it; it just seems there is a lot of news coverage that is telling us things that are not happening, which is unusual because normally you get to hear about things that *are* happening.
There's really no value judgement associated with it, just an observation. 8-)

That's pretty much how I see it as well. :)
Not coaster related, but I thought this was appropriate considering the subject. More in the 'stuff not happening' department:
