Smurf Island @ Carowinds

Does anyone know anthing about Smurf Island from Carowinds?

A few years ago, Smurf Island was the home to a rather large playplace themed to the Smurfs. It closed for reasons I don't know, ask Jonathan (StarCoasters). You got there and back by way of the boat. Thats all I remember. I do remember playing on Smurf Island, but i was very small and I dont remember much about it.

Also, every summer, Kiss 95.1 does a "Survivior Island" on Smurf Island, that contestants do some pretty crazy things, and its fun to watch.

I remember too, but I dont remember much other than the Smurf Village at the top.

There was the smurf village at the top, and then there was a rather large (or at least it seemed large then :P) slide area that was in a way built into the terrain.

I used to LOVE that slide complex, it was cool how you could walk through the smurf houses. I think a little girl fell off the island into the water and drowned. Im not sure though.

They Also use the Island during Scarowinds for Voodoo Island/Bloodbath Bayou thing.

I Thought the entire Thing had a very Disney-ish fill to it, with the canoes and all. It would make a great area for something new, ut it must have been a Hassle to get People on and off the Island with the Stearnwheeler making Trips around the Pond every few min.

I never thought about the timing aspect of that boat thingy. I loved the feel the little island had.

No one fell off the island and drowned. Carowinds quit using the Smurfs much like they quit using Wayne's World themes. The island spent 1 season as Echo Island after they dropped the Smurfs then closed when they opened the much larger PowerStation play area.
