Firefighters said a section of track near the Mean Streak’s second hill somehow caught fire. Workers at the park had been repairing the ride and replacing boards earlier on Tuesday, and part of that work required them to cut metal bolts. Firefighters speculated one of those bolts heated up after being cut, then dropped near the wood. The hot wood may have smoldered for some time until the wind breathed life into the embers hours later and sparked a small blaze.

So many enthusiasts almost got their wish.
Please, y'all, evil never dies.
Failed suicide attempt. I feel ya Mean Streak. It's no fun sitting in the back and being shunned by everyone else.
Aw, man.
Best headline ever when all I saw was "Fire" and "Mean Streak." Then I had to read the rest of it. :(
Anyone else remember the Sandusky FD t-shirts that had Mean Streak on fire?

I saw the headline on my RSS reader and laughed out loud knowing you guys would make some good wisecracks over this story.
If that thing would go up I would hate to be downwind of all that wolmanized lumber.
Not gonna lie, my first thought when reading this was ":Damnit they put it out!"

I actually thought Mean Streak wasn't all that bad.... <<ducks incoming projectiles!>> In my opinion the wrong coaster started on fire. I was thinking of something a few hours to the south that used to have a loop on it. The fire department wouldn't get called on that one.
Certain victory.
I wish that headline read "destroys" not "damages".
I think for future Mean Streak discussions we should change the customary TAER IT DOWN! to KILL IT WITH FIER!

I was all prepared to ask if this was a good thing of bad thing. After reading though teh posts is seems many see it as i do as a missed opportunity to clear the way for not only a better wood coaster but room for more attractions.
Huh?

Assuming Dick actually rebuilds something instead of erecting a privacy fence and using the money to help pay down the debt...
