Small amusement park near Ft. Myers may open after ten years

A decade after plans were first announced, Zoomers Family Amusement Park south of Fort Myers is back on track to open as early as this summer. The dormant project, which has become a familiar reminder of hard economic times for those who pass the intersection of Summerlin Road and San Carlos Boulevard, is tentatively scheduled to open in late May or early June, General Manager Randi Jong said.

This isn't far from where I got married. It's on the way to the beach and Sanibel Island. I don't understand how you don't end up printing money with it. When we were down there in 2008, and again in 2009, it looked like it was mostly done, with several kids rides and such.

That place has the last of the Celebration City steelies (the "adult" coasters going to Wild Adventures - Valdosta, GA and Glenwood Caverns - Colorado).

The other two "kiddie parks" in the Ft. Myers area were Kidstar and King Richard's. Kidstar's Dragon Wagon ended up at Fun Spot Pigeon Forge when that park closed early this year (which may have provided some of the impetus to get Zoomer's on track again).

This is my favorite part of Florida. I bought my car in this city and took the nice drive back to Orlando. I hope this park does well :-)

Cool. I live about an hour north. Will definitely check it out when it opens.
