Skycoaster coming to Michigan's Adventure for 2002

Posted | Contributed by ST chick

Michigan's Adventure officials have received a zoning variance to allow them to build a 189-foot Skycoaster, similar to those found at Cedar Point and dozens of other amusement parks around the country.

Someone tell me, Cedar Fair is not reneging on their deal to get a actual steel coaster for 2002?

Dayuum, Your HOT!
Would rather have a hyper than a skycoaster! I guess its just another way for CF to raise revenue.

I guess the our Skycoaster that has been in storage since 2000 at Dorney will be leaving now.

There was no "deal" they ever made. They said eventually there would be improvements, but it was Jourden (the former owner) who spoke of a steel coaster. MA will get one in due time, I'm sure.

Well there are some interesting things in that article.
First, it says that the park is trying to allow its origanal 125' height restriction to 200, which is good for the future hyper.

Also, the article doesn't know if this pay-per-ride attraction will work (in money terms) However, if given a "resonable" price, it should catch on quite well.

MIA is on it's way everyone!

I'll stay on Timbers and Corkscrew thank you very much. :)

I have NEVER gone on these "skycoasters" because I couldnt fathom paying $15-$30 extra to ride when everything else is free with admission.  Are these rides worth the extra charge?????

There goes my money every week! It was funny, I came home at 2am this morning from SFGAm and saw this lying on my bed and started jumping up and down...at 2am in the morning:). It's good that we will get something good this year, aside from the few flats. The coaster for '02 thought has been long gone, but for sure it will be '03. And I think you guys will be shocked when you finally hear what it is (that is, if they don't change their plans before now and then) because it is so awesome it doesn't seem like it belongs at MIA:).

I would rather go on Power Tower (VF) rather than skycoasters.

17 Parks In the 2001 Season! 105 Coasters in Track Record.
I'm with you ST Chick.  I'm just down the road from ya in SL and I also am wise to the goings on's in the near future.  I'm hoping the plans do not change either.  Did you get your pass for next year yet?  I jumped on the low price deal on the last day of the the season.  Were you there that day?  I was amazed at the number of people there on the last day!!!  Looks like the Hanneford Circus will not be back next year.

Everytime I am at CP I hop on Ripcord.  I am an extreme thrill seeker, so yes I feel the money is well spent.

If you show up then you're there....

I think the skycoaster is worth the extra money.I have ridden the skycoaster @ SFA twice so far and in my opinion it is worth every penny.
It had already been announced that the new steel coaster was to be pushed back to 2003.

Mayday - Memorial Day Weekend - Nonpoint, Nickelback, Oleander, Staind
Ozzfest - June 8 - Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Black Sabbath
Awake Tour- June 15 - Darwin's Waiting Room, Puddle of Mudd, Deftones, Godsmack

I think a skycoaster is a great addition to any park, it doesn't take up a whole lot of space, and is very fun to ride.  The only problem is that there is usually an additional charge.
What would the last day of MIA be without ST Chick? I am always there on the last day, and always get the last ride on Timbers, except this year...but we won't get into that (darn lightning). I got my 400th the last day...people cheered and stuff, so maybe you were there? I was on Timbers all day just to get 400. Actually, it really wasn't THAT busy for the last day, it's just that they were inconsiderate and only ran one train:(. That was the longest I've waited all year though. You say it like the circus not being there is a bad thing! I, for one, hated the circus and celebrated immensely when I found out it was not coming back;). How about you on opening day next season? I have shotgun on the skycoaster the first day it operates;).

I think Cedar Fair will also decide soon to lenghthen the season as well, as long as there is enough tourism in the area at that time of year to keep the turnstyles spinning
ST chick, welcome to my world. That is just how they've been running Batwing @ SFA all season with just one train. So I can sympathize with you on that one.As for me the last ride of the season will either be on Batwing or S:ROS.
It amazes me how much a Sky Coaster costs to ride when in actuality, it is probably the simplest machine in the park.  And I am sure they arent THAT expensive to build.

They are a lot of fun though.

I agree Digital, why are they so much money??? I don't know about other parks, but at SFEG the skycoaster costs $20. That is more than half of the admission price.  I don't see why the additional charge should be that much, or even if their should be an additional charge.  They don't cost a whole lot of money to make.
I have ridden the one at Kennywood.  It is worth the money, which I beleive is charged since there is a very limited capacity riders per day.  Right or wrong, you are paying for the right to have a turn.
