Six Flags to keep Sea World Ohio a marine park

Posted | Contributed by Zero-G

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported on Saturday that the recently purchased Sea World Ohio would remain a marine-themed park. On an interesting note, the article states that the Sea World property in Aurora has "no zoning regulations for amusement park rides."

JayDogg what are you talking about. CP is defanitly going to build the new coaster in 2002. And XFlight how would they build a ride on the other side of the water. How would you get to the other side. It is true that SFO is not going to compete with CP. CP is not rushing to build a new ride this year because they know that if they were to build a new ride in such a hurry after last years ride it wouldn't be any good.
Also XFlight, the city doesn't matter why there is a height restriction it is that SFO is in a residential zone.
Just a question, since Sea World is no longer affiliated with Sea World Orlando, where are all the animals going to go during the winter?
Get a coaster

It's too bad the height restriction is for the original SFO park. Then they could build a 340 foot coaster. They should make a ride that goes 180 on the SFO side and then when it gets to the marine park it could go straight up 150 feet, turn, go straight down to 180 feet again and then go back to the Bainbridge side. I think they would say it was on the SFO side and no one but us would really know it was on the marine park property. Of course that will NEVER happen. Oh well. Hopefully SF will keep the charm of the park and add a little more thrill.

Jack, who can't wait for Opening Day 2001... *** This post was edited by sfga2001 on 1/15/2001. ***
It was already discussed that the majority of the animals already stayed in Ohio for the winter. The dolphin tank is heated and Shamu is used to colder water anyway. Cedar Point used to have dolphins which they housed at the park all year round too. I remember them talking about an air dome that they put over the tank for the winter.

As for replacing the whale, are you sure that there is no way to get a new whale? I know that they can't capture a new one, but it seems like there would be some already in captivity that could be available. After all, the whales do breed while in captivity. Just a thought.
I strongly believe that rides will be installed at Sea World in the next 2-3 years. I don't believe that SFO would keep Sea World a marine park.
I think rides could be installed, but the marine attractions will remain, for several years anyway.
Im shure the 1st thing they will do is transport rides b4 any coasters.
The mayor of Aurora has already stated in the Plain Dealer that she or the city will have any problems building rides over there. And that she they wont give any height restrictions.
Go Full Force: In a few years they will connect at Happy Harbor and RWB. You can see SWO from RWB they are less the 100 yards from each other there. A ferry system could also be used to connect the parks

Don't mess with the X
If you have ever been to SFO then I am sure that you have noticed the remarkable job with BKF queue lines, What is to stop them from putting a nice path in from the RWB area to Happy Harbor within four months.
I look forward to the tallest drop towers in Ohio, in the country, with no zoning restrictions at Seaworld the real power will be with Power Launch: The Explosion.

Now, Bigger and Better than ever... Six Flags Ohio.
If SF plans to maintain two parks on this property then SW will have to stay a marine life park. That would be the only way that SF could provide two different experiences so that people would want to come to property and stay for both parks. I am sure that they could get another whale becuase I believe that SFMW has whales don't they?
This is great! I don't care about a marine park I want coasters. If I wanted animals I'd go to the zoo. The future looks bright for SFO. Look for Six FLags to dominate the Ohio Coaster scene in the next decade. Six Flags has space, no height restrictions, parking lots, their own exit ramp (coming soon), money. Hotels will pop up, a bigger faster coaster than Millenium force, and paths to and fro between SWo and SFO. Bye Shamu;Hello Gigacoaster
Even if they couldn't get another whale, what is wrong with just a dolphin show? I never did find it very entertaining. I would rather watch the seal lion show, especially the first show of the day when the animals don't cooperate that much. I find it interesting that most people over look the word "current" when they refer to their plans for no rides. Yes they will add rides, but they will still keep the marine life theme so that they don't have the same park on two sides of the lake. I also don't think that they will combine the two parks because an article in the Gateway Press (a weekly paper distributed to Streetsboro residents) made it sound like they are planning on charging a separate fee for Hurricane Harbor shortly. That would really be a shame because I thought that Geauga Lake was the first park to provide both types of parks for one flat rate.
The building restriction on SWO was in place in the lease/deed agreement. Not from the city of Aurora itself. Aurora's restriction on SFO was about 400 feet last I checked. But none on SWO because they have shown no intrest in building rides. But half of the park lies within Bainbridge as well.

The height restriction are not that tough in Bainbridge Township. Remember SUE, Villain and BKF are all in Bainbridge and all in excess of 100 feet. And all noisy rides. The park has had little trouble placing new rides in Bainbridge for a few years now.
What a waste of buying Sea World. If they can't build on it, why buy it. People will be disappointed because there won't be a Shamu. They should get some kind of permit to build over there. Sea World was boring enough. There is nothing there. You stare across a lake at all the excitement. Six Flags should really do something better with their money.
I hope they do get a permit for some rides. I'd like to see SWO do what SWF did.

CP in 2002, get to the point
Isn't the Plain Dealer the same paper that loves trashing Six Flags. I take there news with a grain of salt. Six Flags is going to buy many ride for this area.
