Six Flags purchases Sea World of Ohio for $110 million

I wouldn't be surprised if they get some sort of safari based attraction there eventually. Keep in mind that Six Flags ARE NOT new to the animal ownership attractions, I think they will do just fine

Don't worry, I think Six Flags has it under control. If you are in doubt about how experience Six Flags is with marine life and shows, then check out their website at sixflags.com/marineworld/shows/ and they have tremendous amount of shows aimed at marine life. One thing that I find particularly interesting is that their show resemble many SeaWorld shows, and one thing I am looking forward to is a Batman Thrill Spectacular at the SW Ski Stadium. This looks promising and, also features Batman, Robin and the Riddler in ski boats chasing each other in the water. Also they have sea lion shows, bird shows, and dolphin discovery an interactive dolphin pool, to say the least they should be okay for opening day. A new coaster at Sea World wouldn't hurt either.

Now, Bigger and Better than ever... Six Flags Ohio.

I am wondering about those who own the land that is preventing SFO and SWO from becoming a full circle. Imagine the pressure to sell! SWO will slowly be destroyed piece by piece. We lost our wonderful Seaworld. I hope SF goes into debt and losed SFO. Were the stockholders notified?

If you love coasters so much then you wouldn't think that Kirby. I am sick and tired of peeps here that are jealous of the park. If you don't like the park, don't talk about it becuase I don't want to hear the neg. things!

Oh, I see. I only knew that they had sucessful breeding and conservation down in Tampa. I got that info. from Roller Coaster Thrills 2 on DVD, it says the park does those kind of things.

Come to think of it I may remember that, it's been awhile.

In the Plain dealer it said that SWO is 232 acers. It also said that there will be one pass for both parks. It said that more rides will be added this year and an annoucment will be made soon.

I'm not jealous of the park, B&M-TYCOON.
I'd just hate to see SWO destroyed.
But wouldn't it be great to own that remaining piece of land on the lake? Big Bucks.

I agree with the webmaster of this page. Six Flags is spending too fast! What's going to happen? - They are going to run out of credit and you will see no expansion for a long time. They will have acres of land with no money. Look at FUN - they have very little debt! I think SFO/SWO will take a bite out of CP's punch this year, but that's about how long it will last. I visted both last year in late August going to CP first then to SFO...I left SFO after 2 hours becuase nothing was open, and what was broke down while I was in line (Villian). Look for CP to add 2 next year and even more after that. Look for a wild mouse where that lame diving thing is, and something in that circle inside Mean Streak ( A dive machine?) then look for the entrance to be moved futher into the parking lot and that parking lot by Soak City to get smaller. IF CP wanted to they could easily get $200 million in loans!

How much money can SF make? With what Uncle sam is charging they can't keep it up.

Does anyone here know for certain how the company is paying for all this stuff?? Jaxxon has filled us in that part will be payed for by issueing stock. While this may drive stock value down momentarily, it isn't debt. Remember Six Flags Inc. was formerly a land speculation company before the parks. They have deep pockets to begin with and I wouldn't doubt that much of this spending has been cash over credit.

Also while the parks combined aren't quite 200 acres in actual park (with the remainder of the developed land being parking lots, warehouses and such), they do own a lot of the land in the southwestern corner of Geauga County (which holds Bainbridge Township).

The hight restrictions are quite strange. In Aurora they just pushed it up to 400 feet, but little of the park is in Aurora. In Bainbridge the restriction are staggered with the highest restriction along 43 and the lowest in the back near residential developments in Bainbridge (at 65 feet). Remember Batman (in excess of 160 feet) and Superman (inexcess of 120 feet?) are both in Bainbridge. So there will be ways to get what the park wants done. And everytime the park has taken the Township to court they have won their case.

While Six Flags doesn't have a steller record of late under Premier for creating great atmosphere, I do have to keep in mind that the company is rather new to parks when put in context. While having the name of somthing that has been around for fourty years, the company is really rather young. But I do see improvements in how they go about their capitol improvements. They will learn.

S:UE is 180ft I believe, and I fear that SF may end up selling off some of the parks that they haven't been doing much with. I would hate to lose any park, but I don't think that they would race to sell of some of their parks that are their babies. (i.e. SFMM, SFO, SFGAm)

The first parks to go I believe would be the non-sixflags parks i.e. Frontier City, Wyandot Lake, Great Escape, then SFElitch Gardens, SFKentucky Kingdom, maybe even some of the waterparks. Maybe what SF is trying to do is re- establish the newly acquired properties i.e. Enchanted Village etc with the intent to sell them for a higher value and bigger profit. It is not unlikely.

I know, I know, y’all hate when I do this, but with it being the regional park off season, and with “Rollback” being my favorite feature on this site- I thought I’d resurrect this one from 19 years ago.

Don’t want to beat a dead horse as far as whose to blame in what happened to the park in Aurora, but this park’s story is without a doubt probably the most fascinating in recent amusement park history.

Reading this thread brought so many memories back to what was happening during this era in the theme park world in Ohio, when I was a teenager and the internet was a blossoming world where we enthusiasts finally found a world to discuss our obsession.

Also- huge shout out to Jeff who speaks almost as a prophet as to how it would all eventually go down.

Please don’t turn this into a blame game, but enjoy the ride down memory lane as I have.

19 years ago. Wow. My now wife and I bought Six Flags passes from SFWoA when she lost her job (and took our first week long road trip together hitting the east coast Six Flags parks and Busch Gardens. I loved that park.

I loved Geauga Lake. SFWoA, not so much. Geauga had a certain charm to it.I remember one summer when my parents took us to Sea World, and while there staring across the lake wishing we had gone to that cool park across the lake with the roller coasters.

I don't think you had to be a prophet to do the math that operating two parks on the income of one was not going to work. 😂 That it was my first reaction though is very telling about the reality of the situation. And eight months later, we all know what further forced the economy into the crapper.

Reading it all back 19 years later (holy crap) I think the wildest part of all of it that 2001 us wouldn’t believe is that just three years later Cedar Fair would be the ones owning the park.
