Six Flags Over Georgia wants to sell beer at concerts

Posted | Contributed by General Public

Six Flags Over Georgia is asking the Cobb County Commission today to let it begin serving beer at its 12,000-seat amphitheater, where large concerts are staged. Beer would not be served in the main amusement park. Some locals are opposed to the idea, saying it would interfere with the family atmosphere.

Hey, what's the fuss? You get drunk, find a girl, and go ride Superman!!

12,000 seats and only a few hundred people attend? Now you're stretching it. You're grasping for straws to support your argument.

I agree 100% Jeff.
GP: I lived in Marietta for 2 years in my youth, and I agree with you on the mentality of local government there. No shooting pool on Sundays? Jesus Frickin Christ! Thankfully TN was but a hop, skip and a jump away!

Hey, is the Big Chicken still alive and kicking? How about the famous K-Mart banks across from it that myself and many other BMX street/flatlander/racers use to frequent still going?

Hey, beer helps families.

Beer - helping ugly people mate since 1826.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

LOL Pete.

I have yet to see a drunk person at an amusement park. You try getting drunk at Cedar Point or any numbers of parks, and then spend four to eight hours out there in the hot sun. Sorry, not going to work. Most *adults* by beer at parks to relax. If there's any "gettin' drunk" going on, you can bet it's after 9pm at a bar or at home. ;)

I've been drunk at Cedar Point before, but on the surface I just seem really, really fun to be around. Last time I did it, in fact, Pete was there. Pete still owes me $20 from that day.

Prohibition never worked...but I still don't think that drinking is needed. It's sad that people have to depend on a substance to have fun. For family stuff etc. alcohol doesn't need to be served, people who are weak and just wanna be like the other families drink together. No one in my family drinks and we are always having a good time. For you saying "don't go to the park on concert days" I'm not worried about me, I'm worried about the people on the freeway and stuff like that, drunk driving is very common. Just face it okay, alcohol does not need to be served at a theme park.

Dude... who said you need to drink to have fun? I'm having fun right now and I've not had a drink in about a week. You're making a bunch of ridiculous assumptions and judgements about people being "weak" or whatever. What's that about?

Alcohold doesn't need to be served at parks but it is and it's perfectly within their right to conduct business as they see fit, just like any other restaurant, arena, club or other entertainment venue.

God, you'd think by reading some of these posts that anyone who has ever has a beer is a mindless idiot drunk with a DUI record.

I don't think that beer or wine should be part of a midway or amusement/water park. Disney handles it well by allowing it in some of their more upscale restaurants. If it's going to happen, and it will, at least let be limited to let's say after 7 PM.

By the way...at one time before Halloween became such a big deal, Six Flags Great Adventure used to hold Octoberfest - which featured authentic German (and domestic) beer and spirits. I don't drink alcohol at all, so it didn't faze me.

Disney sells it on the midway. I know, I've had one. Nothing upscale about that.

Come to think of it, I've had a beer at every major chain, including Disney, Busch, Six Flags and Cedar Fair. I know it'll be a shock to leodude, but I didn't drive drunk, I didn't pass out, I didn't puke, I didn't trip over small children, hell, the only other person who even knew I had a beer was my wife.
