Six Flags Over Georgia announces name for Georgia Surfer roller coaster

From the press release:

Six Flags Over Georgia — the Thrill Capital of the South, just announced that Georgia Surfer is the winning name of the new Ultra Surf coaster opening this summer. Georgia Surfer will be a first-of-its-kind, industry-revolutionizing attraction featuring the ultimate combination of a roller coaster and a water ride.

Last summer during their inaugural Coaster Fest event, Six Flags Over Georgia announced the new Ultra Surf coaster coming to the park and opened up the naming of the new attraction to their fans. Over 2,500 name suggestions were submitted and over 27,000 votes were cast for the top name.

Georgia Surfer is bringing a totally new coaster experience to the park. Riders will launch forward and backward along nearly 590 feet of track, reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour, hitting the ride’s 144-foot peak before coasting down into a scenic splash pool. Free-spinning seats ensure no two rides are alike.

Because… there’s so much surfing in Georgia?

At least after you throw up from the spinning you'll be washed off from the splashdown.

Georgia Scorcher and Georgia Surfer. The lack of creativity is stunning

Spinning. A coaster track that doesn't do anything bu go back and forth. A soaking wet finale. Chafing and wet shoes for the rest of the day. I just don't understand how this sounds like fun.

But I kind of like the name, even though it doesn't make any sense.

Question is will Six Flags have a coaster called Flight Deck? Georgia Surfer sounds like it was conceived by the same person.

I guess if Georgia is in any ride name, it's good enough.

You guys are all party poopers.

It’s a different take on a water ride. It will have some weightlessness like a half pipe. I would ride it.

Travis, bring a pair of sandals, and wear swim shorts, it Georgia and it’s hot.

How can anyone have fun on a ride with a name that's not creative?

No one has said it yet, so as my civic duty as a CoasterBuzz old timer...

One train. 20 seats. Why won't anybody think of the capacity!

I don't think riders will get too wet on this. My understanding is that the water splash is mainly for onlookers, more like Sheikra or Griffon rather than Aquaman Power Wave.

I don’t think there will be much spinning either. My experience with halfpipe coasters would best be described as “occasional turning”.

In my last year at SFOG they were just building the new stand up coaster in the off season. There was some marketing company that came up with the names for the rides for corporate and they seriously wanted to call it Steel Magnolias. Management went to the staff and said please come up with a better name, this is awful. It opened after my time and apparently someone came up with Georgia Scorcher which works.

It's disturbing to me that someone got paid to come up with Steel Magnolias. This is likely the same marketing firm that came up with Superman: Ride of Steel which I also think is cringy.

If you haven’t seen Jeffrey Wright’s American Fiction, go. In addition to other things, it’s this ^ very thing.
