Six Flags may refuse to let sex offenders in parks

A move by Six Flags to protect park visitors from sex offenders and convicted criminals is being hailed by industry observers but questioned by some legal experts. The new rule, printed on all season passes, states park officials may refuse admission or revoke the passes of registered sex offenders and convicted criminals who violate park safety and security rules.

Actually, I'd say it is less of a publicity stunt and more of SFI trying to nip a potential legal problem in the bud.

I don't think you guys realize something here. Six Flags isn't doing background checks on single day tickets. They don't want Sex Offenders getting season passes and showing up every day of the summer. Regardless of someone being reformed and all, Six Flags is trying to up their image here.

This isn't much different than the Mr. Six commercials. But also, with that little bit of text on the Season Passes, Six Flags can avoid potential responsibility if something were to ever come up at a park. I'd venture to say this is more of an Image thing and a CYOB attempt here. Regardless of opinions, this is what they did. I could care less, and say 'Kudos' to SFI for getting more attention about this than that Tallest, Fastest thing they're supposedly opening.

I have had one opinion for a long time on this issue (see above), but I have changed my mind almost overnight because of a point that a friend made to me yesterday when we were talking about this.

He told me that over 80% of released sex offenders re-offend. If this is correct, then I really don't know where I stand on this issue anymore.

I am scared of living in a Police state. I have been watching the US slowly turning into something I do not like. No one should be forced to wear a tracking device, not even sex offenders in Florida, imho. That's why I am so against this kind of thing, because when one group of people are targeted to be hated, it can't be to far until more groups are hated so that we all turn against each other. BUT...

80% is a lot. If it's true, and not some slanted statistic, then i don't know what I think.

Two of my close family members have had a lot of lifetime problems because of child abuse when they were young. I think a lot of us know someone who has been abused. How can we stop the problem if child abusers can't be fixed? This is a tough issue.

TeknoScorpion, I wasn't looking at it that way. Thanks.

In my opinion, sex offenders do NOT belong at amusement parks. But, legally, I do not see why they could not come. I have been to many parks and have seen some suspicious people, but I would never imagine a child getting abducted from a park. Instead of banning sex offenders, we should try to increase security. This is a very touchy subject that is sure to be controversial if SF decides to go ahead with it (I cant wait until the media hears of this).
I say DO IT! Just two weeks a go we had a man taking pics of little girls in my park...we so caught his ass and the cops were called in.

so wrong...
