Six Flags Marketing

Is Six Flags doing heavier promotion than usual this year? I ask out of curiousity more so than knowledge.

My wife is the GM at a hotel in Allentown and SFGAdv has been sending her a ton of protional materials to display and offering discount coupons for employees, friends, hotel guests, whoever. She's received a bunch of camera ready art for promotional displays. Just the full package asking her to help push people to the park. Not too unusual considering the relative closeness of the park to the area. It just seemed like they really kept bombarding the hotel with more offers and incentives to send guests their way.

Then this past week my wife had a conference to attend in Cleveland. My family is in western PA so we drove. We stopped at a McDonalds in the middle of the state (just outside Williamsport) and they literally had boxes of Six Flags discount coupons out near the condiments. The funny thing is that the coupons were discounts for SFWOA. It seemed very agressive as it's about 250 miles from Williamsport to Aurora, Ohio.

Basically is anyone aware of an increased attempt to get visitors this year by Six Flags or are they always this agressive?

...or am I the only one who cares?

Whenever I've gone to St Louis or Chicago I've noticed the same thing for the last couple of years

Excalibur Crew for 2002!

Six Flags is always pretty agressive in their marketing. That's part of why they are so big. The same can be said of Disney. I don't know if they are being any more agressive than usual this year though. At least they haven't decided that since the economy is slow they should lay off all of their marketing people and let their business go to pot.
If there IS an increase.. I wonder if it has anythign to do with the 1% loss they posted for last operating season.

sfwoa advertises all the way to about 20 miles from SFDL, and close to SFKK, that says something...

SF always does alot of agressive marketting for quite a distance around their parks. I see brochures for Six Flags all along highway rest stops and their advertising reaches almost every major TV market. They promote agressively to get people into the gates so they will spen money on the games, the biggest money maker of all. And I doubt they are being more agressive by a large degree, but they may be popping up earlier then we're used to seeing them advertise. Gotta get butsin the seats. ;)

Ready to spring into a new coaster season! :)

I have been able to get Six Flags discount coupons in coaster deficient Portland,Oregon and the nearest SF park is over 600 miles away in Vallejo,CA(SFMW)I dont' count Enchanted Village/Wild Waves as a SF park yet.Not until they build a major coaster and brand it as a SF park. While 10 new rides including a mouse coaster is a step in the right direction,I am not about to drive for 3 hours just to ride a 40 foot mouse coaster.I'll drive an hour to Thrillville near Salem,OR and ride a Schwartzkopf Jet Star.

I can fix anything.....where is the duct tape?

i don't know if there's an increase or not, but the ads they're running for SFNE are absurd! There's dramatic, "Ten Commandments" style music playing while the park is referred to as "magical" and "spectacular." Were you to believe this ad, you'd think that going there is akin to some kind of religious experience - way more intense ad than last year's. Having been there several times i thought the ad was just plain laughable (not that the rides aren't great, but the atmosphere's no DisneyWorld), but i'm sure it will be effective in attracting more crowds this year. We'll see at the end of the season.
I remember in 2000, I was staying at hotel near Kennywood, and there was brochures for SFDL.

The word "definitely" is definitely the most misspelled word on the buzz.
