Six Flags Magic Mountain, 4/20/09, Near empty school day

Park hours 10:30-6. I got to the parking booths at at 9:45. I don't know where all the traffic was. I left my house at 8:15. Normally on a weekday it takes me a little over 2 hours to get there so 1 hr, 30 mins during rush hour on the I-5 for 65 miles was nice. Anyway, there were only about 10 cars in the parking lot when I got there. At the entrance gate there were like 30 people, so I knew lines would be non-existent. The first lot was never more than 3/4 full. Ride ops were routinely telling people to "enjoy their ride" and when rides were over they were saying "thank you for riding (insert ride name) and enjoy the rest of your day at Six Flags". Lines were so short that at times, the ride ops were getting on the microphones and telling people they could take any empty seat and ride again if they wanted to. Also the Terminator signs at the park which used to say "opening spring, 2009" now say "opening May, 2009". When I rode Deja Vu, I saw a lot of people working on Terminator.

They had 2 trains on every coaster which is able to except Gold Rusher. I did not get a Q-bot, but I did get a little more information about the X2 add-on. When you pick a time, they give you a paper flash pass with a reservation time printed on it. It is totally separate from the actually Q-bot device.

So here is the day in order..

Revolution: once

Tatsu: once, 20 mins

X2: twice, 10 mins and 20 mins

Viper: twice, walk onto front row both times, no one in line when I got there.

Tatsu: once, 10 mins.

Jet Stream: walk on, ride op at final drop was asking people if they wanted her to splash them as they went by. It was extremely hot today so I said yes. I noticed that the people in the boat in front of me did too.

Gold Rusher: walk on

Riddler's Revenge: walk on twice. Ride op let me cut through the flash pass entrance since there was no line and said "you're welcome and have a great day" when I thanked her.

Batman: twice, walk onto front row, and moved back to row 3 and went again. When I arrived there were 2 people in line.

Colossus: walk on

Scream: walk onto front row and moved to row 4 and went again. 2 people in line when I arrived.

Goliath: twice, walk on to row 3 then rode again. At end of ride there were barely enough people to fill one train, but the line was barely long enough that you could not stay on. Ride op let me wait at the exit then come back in 2 trains later and ride again without walking all the way around. Sat in the middle the 2nd time.

Log Jammer: 5 mins. Splash felt really good but evaporated in a few minutes.

X2: 15 mins

Revolution: walk onto front row. no one in line when I arrived.

Tatsu: 5 mins

Deja Vu: walk on twice, front row 2nd time. First times riding it since October. It was closed for refurbishment on my last 3 visits. No one in line when I got there for my 2nd ride.

Ninja: walk onto front row, no one in line when I got there.

Tatsu: walk on, less than 20 people in line.

X2: twice, 10 mins and 20 mins. Arrived at 5:45 and was going to leave after this, but a ride op that I had talked to while waiting for X2 earlier in the day stopped me on my way out and said that I could go again if I wanted to. The line had already been cut off, but they were keeping the ride open so that the people who had been waiting could still ride. They had a few empty seats to fill in so he let me stay and wait again even though it was after 6:00 and the park was technically closed. So I was actually there until about 6:30.

28 total rides. X2-5 times, Tatsu-4, Viper-2, Revolution-2, Ninja-1, Deja Vu-2, Jet Stream-1, Gold Rusher-1, Riddler's Revenge-2, Batman-2, Colossus-1, Scream-2, Goliath-2, Log Jammer-1

My mother (1946-2009) once asked me why I go to Magic Mountain so much. I said I feel the most alive when I'm on a roller coaster.
