Six Flags Magic Mountain 2009 coaster will be family ride

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Six Flags Magic Mountain officials said a family coaster with no inversions and a 48-inch height requirement is “on track” for spring 2009. Despite rampant speculation, the themed coaster will not be a rotating Tony Hawk’s Big Spin or an indoor Dark Knight, according to officials at the Valencia amusement park.

One problem that MM has (that never seems to be talked about by Shapiro) is thier hiring practices and employee training. This is a big reason why alot of people don't stop at MM. Most of the staff is just plain rude and is realy only concerned with what time thier shift is over. At most of the parks that I do visit, the management realy takes pride in how well they train their staff and treat them with respect by paying fare wages and offering them benefits. The results of this is a positive attmosphere that the customer expects when visiting a FAMILY THEME PARK. The people who work for you are a direct reflection of who you are and the kind of business you operate. If your employees are unhappy your business will be unhappy regardless of what new coaster you do or do not build.
^ I have a feeling Jay will be able to work wonders in the employee department.

^Given reasonable latitude, I agree completely. If corporate ties his hands too hard with regards to pay, bonuses, incentives, etc., then the park is going to continue to have problems. But he seemed exceptionally approachable, and that's one thing I find kinda lacking at some of the more "corporate" parks. Like that time at Dorney.

Then there's SFA, where Terry P. was very outgoing and involved. Still had employee problems out the wazoo - maybe too much carrot (Bugs Bunny reference) and not enough stick. Actually, SFA is probably the closest thing to SFMM in terms of staff. If either of those parks is going to become "Family-friendly", it's not going to be based on ride choices, but STAFF.

Innovation? Heck yeah, I even recall Jay's *cool* drink refill program at SFKK. Let the man manage! :)

P.S. Wanted to add, this looks more GCI-ish by the minute. "Edit" messes up the paragraphs...

Somewhere between OzCat and KRumbler - there lies SFMM's '09 attraction. ;)

I sure do like Moosh's terrain idea vs the psuckclone spot. That would also allow them to close that side of the park as some rumors would have it.
Hey, so here's a great little "preview" of the Sky Tower Museum transformation.

The official name is Magic of the Mountain Museum.

^^Gator:SFA is far more in need of new attractions to draw people in than SFMM is right now, although both parks could certainly use staffing improvements right now.

The last thing SFMM needs is yet another coaster right now regardless of wether it's marketed as a thrill ride/record breaker or a so called family ride....what they need are more flats to balance out the coasters that they currently have.

Besides, the economy is currently heading for a recession(thanks in part to Bush's lousy economic planning) so americans don't have the disposable income that they once did & as a result no matter what SFI adds to their parks anywhere in the chain over the next few years they're still going to be no better off financially than they are right now until the national economy improves....which will only happen once Bush leaves office & the new president is sworn in.

BATWING FAN SFA --- you never stop singing the same tune, do you?
kRaXLeRidAh said- the last thing Magic Mountain needs is another roller coaster.

We're all singing the same tune.

^ I was referring to him bringing up Six Flags America being shafted out of new attractions (again for the millionth time).

^Not until they build the bathroom we've been asking for....the one by Supes/Batwing.....since before Batwing's construction was even started.... ROFL!

All parks need a headline-grabbing addition now and then. But with lousy staff, you become too dependent on adding new rides to TRY and get back the guests who wouldn't NEED courting had their previous visit(s) been more pleasant. And that's how SFFM began competing with CP n coaster count.... ;)

^ SFFM? Must be the new Six Flags Fiesta Mexico I keep hearing about. ;)
Ya know.........As much as I would love to see a family GCII go into MM in 2009; There is another direction that can be taken, that isn't themed, or spinning, when it comes to a family coaster. That being a Gerstlauer Bobsleigh coaster along the lines of Heibe Fhart?, at Klotten, or Gesente Sau, at Tripsdrill.

Those are definitely family type coasters, and extremely fantastic rides. Just thought I'd throw out a non woodie angle.*** This post was edited by Coasterphan 3/1/2008 1:39:07 PM ***
