Six Flags Great America releases info on new Super Invertigo and Impulse

Posted | Contributed by 1nomed

I got my season pass mailer today. It describes the new coasters, for those who don't already know, as an Intamin Impulse and a Vekoma Super Invertigo. The Super Invertigo will be named Deja Vu and painted green with blue supports. The Impulse will be named Vertical Velocity and painted yellow with blue supports. Also, Great America has updated their operating calendar online.

I know that SF has been doing this for years but I mean they seem to be doing it in record numbers now. I just don't think they should oh well. OH ya Matchbox 32 I'm not just saying this because it's "off season" because here in LA there is no off season. Feel sorry for you!!!

California!!!! Home of the orignal: Deja Vu, Vertical Volocity (V2), Superman,Viper!!
Sorry Chris, but I live here in California as well, so there! lol. And you still haven't given a good reason as to why cloning coasters is bad. If you can't give a substantial reason, your just joining the bandwagon just for the heck of it. And as I have said before, maybe it's time to stop worrying about parks 2,000 plus miles away, and perhaps step away from the computer for awhile. It's warping perspectives.

Oh and Chris Senn, did you ever really notice that your SFMM Viper is pretty much just an altered clone of SFGAm's Shockwave? And both SF Astroland and SLDL had rcs named Viper before SFMM. Not really an original huh? How 'bout V2? It's a clone of Ohio's S:UE with a new name. If SFGAm is getting the same thing with the same V2 name, can SFMW's really be (in your warped logic) an original without SFGAM's also? *** This post was edited by mat on 2/28/2001. ***

Okay, what do you consider incredibly low capacity? With V2 having 28 people per train and a ride cycle of about 55seconds, add another minute for load/unload...let's say 2 minute cycles for V2. 30 trains per hour. 28 people per train. About 840pph for V2. That's not THAT bad.

Actually, full cycle time for S:UE at SFO was closer to 3 minutes. (28/3) * 60 = 560 pph. Pretty low.

Now, that number can certainly be improved at a park that cares about capacity; I haven't been to SFGAm, so I can't say how good they'll be at it.

Compared with any multiple train coaster, YES VV and DV are going to be low capacity. BUT this apparent "flaw" is part of the answer to CoasterFiend's question of
"Déjà Vu is going to be incredibly low capacity, so is V². The park already has an inverted coaster, so why install two more?

First off, psychologically speaking, the intensity of the ride experience of an inverted coaster is greater than that experienced on a 'traditional' coaster of the same layout (see US Pat #5,272,984 by Walt & Claude). Therefore putting in a super invertigo is a more thrilling installation than a super boomer. Second, by putting in TWO low capacity coasters, their combined capacity is near that of a two train coaster. If you have not noticed all the Deja Vu's have been part of a multi ride expansion. SF understand the low capacity of these rides and has taken steps to address this issue.

As for the naming, as stated above, we coaster 'fanatics' are the only ones who will be cognizant of the name duplication. Back in the '20 there was no debate concering the multitude of Cyclone, Dipper, or Wildcat coasters, because most people simply werent aware of their existance. And for the average Joe, this is still the case. As a community, we take ourselves too seriously. Let it go....or just be mad. Either way, I don't think it is a suitable topic for debate.

I think it is great that the park is installing these two cutting edge coasters. I was also glad that a Mr. Freeze clone was not installed. SFGAM 2001 is going to be great.

Yes, the key "word" in that sentence is "SFO." :)

Well, I have been there once or twice. I don't think two minute intervals are out of the question at all. 1 min for ride cycle, one to load/unload. I'm guessing typical hourly capacity will be in the 750-800pph range.

how is that mr freeze is it fun to ride
Actually, the timing for an impluse loading/unloading is 2+ minutes. "I got bored waiting in line at Superman so I timed it."
Yeah Jeff,
Almost as good as the SP mailer they sent out for SFO.. err.. what ever it's called this week.

One paragraph about X-FLight.. no drawings or anything.. Pretty sad...
Bubba sez: Actually, the timing for an impluse loading/unloading is 2+ minutes. "I got bored waiting in line at Superman so I timed it."

Yes, let me repeat myself. These timings were taken at SFO, which couldn't really care less about the word "capacity." I understand that times over there were less than stellar. I am fully confident that SFGAm will operate VV substancially better than SUE was operated at SFO.

A good coaster will make me fart "Old Glory"!
These 2 new coasters will be a great addition to the park(R.I.P SkyWhirl). This park now has a wide variety of scream machines.
1. Whizzer- Speed racer
2. Demon- Small looper
3. Viper- Wooden twister
4. Raging Bull- Hyper
5. Deja-Vu- Inverted shuttle looper
6. American Eagle- Wooden racer out-and-back
7. Iron Wolf- Standup
8. Spacely Sprocket Rockets- Junior
9. Batman: The Ride- Inverted
10. Vertical Velocity(V2)- Impulse inverted shuttle
11. Shockwave- Mega looper

I see this this as perfect balance at this park for coasters. Riding heaven in 2001!!!!

you guys are so annoying. It is not like we aren't getting any rides at all. Anyway those two new rides will make lines much shorter for man other rides. The raging bull for example, the lines will be real short, and like nothing for the other rides. SO STOP COMPLAINING!!

SFGA all the way 2001!!! V2 and Deja Vu Rock!!
