Six Flags Great America gets OK for new thrill ride

Posted | Contributed by Brad SFGA

Six Flags Great America has been granted permission to build what is described to be an Intamin Impulse coaster, similar to the one built last year for Six Flags Ohio. The best part? It sounds like it will be built over water.

Read all about it from The Daily Herald.

Good point as always, Jeff.

The thing I don't like about the ride line-up for next year is that they lose a tame ride for two thrill rides. I really hope they have plans to put a new wheel in so they don't alienate their older guests.
I just wish my home park(CP) would add a super invertigo clone.
Alright I'll back off on the clone thing. I guess I'm just disappointed because I have ridden S:UE, Face Off and Mind Eraser. And yes they are great rides with the exception of Mind Eraser.

Two Words, "Millennium Force"
No one has ever ridden a super invertigo. It's a prototype and it sounds sweet.
I think that both will be great additions to the park and will without-a-doubt decrease the lines at the other rides (something which I noticed was needed in my trip this summer). Also, both will deliver unique experiences to the park and it's visitors. There is nothing to complain about with SFGAm's 2001 season.
I wouldn't go that far, Missy. I've found that when a new coaster is built at SFGAm, all the lines usually get *longer* due to the fact these new coasters are bringing more people to the gate. This year at SFGAm was the perfect year to go to SFGAm. With only a Russian Circus, there weren't many people in the park at all. Raging Bull had 10 minute waits on a Saturday in June! I believe SFGAm '01 season will be busier than this year, resulting in longer lines than the 2000 season. But hey, with two great new coasters coming, it's all good! :)

"I never thought it was possible, but this both sucks, and blows."
10 minutes on Saturday....IN JUNE!!!?? That's pretty hard to believe. I went on a weekday in June and it was only 30 minutes. All other rides were under 30 minuted. So with 2 new coaster, plus the ones we allready have, the lines shoudl be a lot shorter, especialy on weekdays.

Legendary says: "The lines usually get *longer* due to the fact these new coasters are bringing more people to the gate."

Right on... that's generally the reason to put in a new ride. It's all about getting butts in the park and getting them to spend money. Look at Millennium Force's impact on Cedar Point this year (still long Raptor lines) or the three new rides at Six Flags Ohio (long lines everywhere).

I'm glad some people grasp the business concept of amusement parks!

Believe it! I was operating the ride on Latino Day some early June Saturday and for a few hours it was at the turnaround gate near the bottom of the stairs! Wish I was in the park. :)

Jeff:

About the SFO comment "long lines everywhere." I must be the luckiest person when it comes to SFO, because I NEVER waited longer than 20 mins for ANY ride at SFO, and I went 8 times this year. At least once every month from May - October. Just good luck I guess!

"Legend 1 looks too intense for me."
well i would like to point out one thing. everytime i was at ga which was about 30 last year they were understafed at the gate and it was imposible to get into the park one weekday afternoon it took 45 min to buy tickets for a friend that didnt have a seasons pass they need to work on there gate oporations

One time, I timed a 5:30 interval on SFOs Mind Eraser....Some ride ops have their stuff together more than others.
SFO do need to learn a thing or to about turn over.

The 2 shuttles here at GA are going to compliment each other well.
I've heard from someone who works at Vekoma's German Division, that:

-> Arrow Dynamics will build the prototype
If it's succesful and smooth, Vekoma will take over the project and build/deliver/customize it...

The only Arrow 4D will be the prototype, the rest will be Vekoma 4D's.
I think that the S:ue ride will be pretty much the same but themed to one of Bat man's villians. And the reverse inclined coaster will be unlike anything we've ever seen before! I hope they build some totally awesome qeue house like Mr. Freeze or The penguin somthing like that. Oh well what ever it will be it will be totally awesome

(What's that smell?)
I hope they keep all the super hero themeing to one area. I don't want everything to spread all over the park. I think 2 super hero themed coasters in one year is a bit too much. But we will just have to wait and see.

It is gonna be soooo sweet at SFGA next year!!!
They should sacrifice Sky Whirl for a SUPER Invertigo and SUE will be awesome

Six Flags Great America #1 Park!!!
I was at sfo in october for an event, and only waited about 10 minutes for S:ue for the front.
After that I rode it a total of 25 times on a saturday (twice) and sunday (23) Sfga in 2001
At Six Flags Great America the super invertigo ride that is being constructed in place of the Sky whirl will probably be called the "Portal"

Also the Impulse coaster will most likely have Superman in the name.

Just so you know Raging Bull is taller than shockwave with a 202 ft high hill and 208 ft first drop while shockwave is 170 ft tall with a 155 ft first drop~~~~~the "super invertigo" will be taller than shockwave also at about 186 ft high or so.
Does anyone know what colors these 2 new rides will be? And usernetomia, why do you think the invertigo will be called "The Portal"? I wish we were'nt getting 2 clones but 2 new coasters is great.
I recieved an email from an inside source telling me this. It may not be true though.
