I work at the returns desk at my local Walmart, and I've taken back many items because the person who was to use it is no longer alive, like Depends, medicine, old people drinks like Ensure. As long as they have a receipt or everything checks out, it's the right thing to do.

Although a season pass to a theme park is probably a different story, it has not been used through no fault of the purchaser, so I don't see why it can't be refunded.

Not claiming it as an absolute, but the "no refunds" language on your ticket, pass, voucher...is somewhat slanted in favor of the park saying no. Now, good business sense dictates that having a bunch of bad publicity when someone calls the 6 o'clock news just isn't worth holding that firm...but the "contract" is on their side if the park wanted to play hardball (H/T/ Chris Matthews).

^Just so. Back in my box office, our tickets say no refund no exchange and we tell customers at the time of the sale the same thing. There are circumstances where a refund or exchange wouldn't be possible or appropriate. Someone who bought tickets through a ticket broker, well, we can't refund money they never paid us, for example.*

But certainly in the case of a death in the family, a refund is granted. Accidents on the way to the theatre, family emergency...vast majority of the time all people want is to see the show on a different day and we accommodate that. It's in the best interest of the company.

*It amazes me how many people buy tickets from brokers and don't realize it. One woman expressed amazement that she could have bought tickets from a broker: she searched on the Internet for tickets and made sure to click on the very first link. I have to assume she did not read what she was clicking on, or if she did, didn't stop to wonder why our website URL would not use the words Blue, Man or Group.

Thank you. BMG Chicago just kind of does its own thing, and does it really well.
