Six Flags Great Adventure plans to build hotel on-property

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Representatives of Six Flags Great Adventure have presented plans for a new 500-room hotel to the Jackson planning board. The proposed hotel will be built a half-mile inside the park.

All I can say is, "It's about time". Now people have a closer place to stay than, say, Trenton when they want to visit both the water and theme park. I always thought it was a really bad move for them to have their waterpark as a second gate when there was nowhere nearby to sleep.

Good move, Six Flags.

Couple of points:

1. I'd say hotel pricing would probably be comparable to what you find at CP with their on-site properties. Unless of course, SF blows it and gives away the revenue by undercharging similar to their season pass and gate practices. $200 a night doesn't sound unreasonable at all to me.

2. I suppose everybody's definition of 'close' differs, but there are plenty of hotels within a short drive of the park. Just last May we sucked it up and stayed at a Quality Inn (yeah, Gonch slummed it) that was just 10 miles from the park. Took less than 15 minutes to get there. That's nothing if you ask me. Expand the radius to 20 miles and I'd bet I could list at least 20 hotels within that distance. (note, I didn't say nice hotels :) )

3. I think it's an excellent move.

$200 a night wouldn't be that bad, if hotels guests get free parkng and entry into the park an hour early. Even the fleabag hotels in the area are usually pricier than similar hotels in other parts of the country
Yeah, they added 25mill+ this year, they're adding a major woodie next year, and they're adding a hotel. And no Parks got anything new this year because of Kingda Ka, just like BWFSFA said.

(hint: we really need that rolls eyes smiley bad, Jeff!)

Agent Johnson........FYI.........SFGAdv dumped their Xmas light show after only one year. The hotel is still a good idea though. Brings thoughts of something similar to Darien Lake to mind, having the hotel "connected" to the park, and no other hotels close by.

Guests would probably have their own entrance to the theme park and maybe a short shuttle bus ride over to HH if this is approved and built in the old season pass lot.

Batwing obviously isn't aware of the worst kept secret about next years Intamin woodie......$35 million or so on new coasters and other improvements this year and next and he already assumes 2007 and beyond is a lost cause for new rides?? lol I think SF has finally realized the old saying.....you have to spend some money in order to make some money and it seems apparent that they are willing to do so, at least at their most visited parks.

Hotels and waterparks...may not make "enthusiasts" happy, but it sure will go over well the next time SFI starts looking over the books....who knows, maybe even the "weather" will improve... ;)

SFI has finally realized that building the parks up to bring people in is only half the equation....the next part is making them WANT to open their wallets and dump cash. Waterparks and on-site hotels (esp. with early-entrance benefits)....those make people $pend their money...

I hate to dig up old thread. But didn't want to start a new one.

Does anyone know what happened to this? We are going to the park in late August and have been looking for hotels. I know from discussions that there isn't much around. The closest I found was Radisson about 15 miles. Then plenty over in Bordentown area. Has there been any recent hotel additions near park?

Thanks!

^^Nothing new, but you might check out the Days Inn on Rt. 9 in Freehold. About 15-20 minutes.

If Coasterbuzz could support another zombie topic, it already would have one.

The joke will never get old, to me anyways. If you want a guaranteed +1 from me, just say something like Andy just said.

If this post could support a +1 from Krause, it would already have (plus) one.

But it DOES have a +1 from Krause.

I did not realize this was a zombie thread and I started reading it at the beginning. I kept waiting for someone to start screaming to bill?? "WE TOLD YOU SO!"

I think we screamed that enough the first time.
