After Sept. 30, private cars will no longer be allowed through the wildlife preserve at Six Flags Great Adventure, park officials said Monday, ending an experience that was part nature expedition, part road trip and hated by animal rights activists almost as much as it was enjoyed by animal gawkers. The park will close after that date, a month sooner than it would normally shut down for the season.

We also learned that those SFGAdv ostriches could be bad-ass. As we were driving through the safari, an ostrich gave us the evil eye and ran straight to our car from 50 feet away. It continuously pecked at our car window for over a minute before walking away. We had done nothing to provoke it - I suspect it was our out-of-state license plates. It was actually pretty awesome to watch. That was not nearly as scary as when the two baboons tried to car-jack us. Of course, we should have expected that because... wait for it...it's Jersey.

Right now the safari has a separate gate with a separate admission. When they fold the safari into the park, they're going to lose out on all the money they were getting from the safari when it was separate.
We don't have the numbers, but I am going to speculate that either the safari was losing business enough for the to decide to include it into park admission, or it will possibly be an upcharge.

It's also quite possible that it will become an upcharge with an entrance in the park (did anyone ever do the safari and not the park or water park? It's not like you're cutting off potential customers) and/or water park or it will remain separately gated but just with park vehicles. I would bet on the latter but not much.
