And they're being done on bottom-of-the-barrel coasters. Of the four rebuilds (TG, Colossus, Cyclone, and Roar West) how many will actually be missed? I can understand a general sentimentality for woodies, but why defend specific rides that were generally panned?

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

I'll miss Old Texas Giant and Riverside Cyclone.

The other two, not so much.

Curious, Mr. Gator. Do you think you miss them because they were great rides? Or because they were once great rides and there's a nostalgic factor in there for you?

I've never been to SFNE so Cyclone v. 1 and 2 will never be on my list. I hope to get version 3 someday, and the new ride looks fantastic and I hear it's nothing but an improvement. As for Texas Giant, I rode that ride when it was really great and again after it had gone to s. I have great memories of that ride as a traditional woodie (when it was at it's rollicking best) so I'm a little sad that it's no longer there. However, NTG was so much fun, and also a vast improvement, that it eases the sadness. Quite a bit, in fact.

I have had fantastic ride on the two former coasters. Not just OK rides, great rides. I generally go for the back seat, so if they're rough in an unpleasant way, I'll know it. And move up in the train for subsequent rides if necessary. I'm not a masochist, but I do like a wilder ride. Gwazi, I didn't ride outside the first two rows for the last couple years of its life.

Roar West I only experienced once - including ERT after park closing (i.e., typically optimal rides), and it plain sucked. Boring and rough, a mini-MS. Colossus was a pile by the time I got my first rides and never got any better...

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Sad to see another GCI disappearing. I haven't ridden this one, but I've enjoyed all of the other ones immensely.

I've only been on Roar East. For me, one and done.

Maybe the trains will move from west to east. Do we suppose that would be an improvement?

I thought that Roar East was great, a hell of a lot better than Wild One; rode it more times than anything else at SFA other than Superman. Can't comment on Roar West except to say that unless it was completely beyond salvation I'm sorry to see it go.

Since August 16th is my mom's birthday, I've been trying for years to get her to go on a roller coaster. I think it would be hilarious. No such luck so far, but I'm going to keep trying. I think Phoenix would be a really good starter coaster.

Perhaps she can be lured in with some chicken?

Can't wait for PPP this fall!

I hope Roar East stays as it is. Sure, it could use a little track work, but it’s not a bad ride by any means. I hope they keep the PTC's on it too. In my opinion, Gwazi and Wildcat were both far better with their original trains.

Roar West is superior to Roar East. Due to having different trains (Millennium Flyer vs PTC). IMHO. Disclaimer: my Roar West ride was in 2005 and Roar East was in 2012.
