Six Flags Darien Lake not receiving wooden coaster just yet

Posted | Contributed by Szymo

A while ago, I mailed SFDL about the lumber being delivered by Roadway trucks and about the rumored new wooden coaster. Well, they mailed me back and confirmed that the lumber is for continuing renovation of Predator. They also told me that the rumor of GCI wooden racing coasters is false. Read the letter and view a scan of it at SFDL Online.

That's too bad. SFDL really needs at least one new coaster for 2001. All four times I have went there this year the park was pretty empty compared to last year. All the coasters have been running one car and they all are still walk on. Even Superman was walk on. Maybe it was just when I went but, I don't think so.
When I was there earlier this year I was talking to one of the ride op's on superman. He said he had heard nothing of a new wooden coaster for SFDL. He did say he heard rumors that they may be getting a standup though. I posted it here in the rumors section and it never showed up. Either I did something wrong or it was deleted.

Really Koaster Keith? Wow...I never really thought it was that rough.

I wouldn't know... both times I've been to the park it was either down mechanical or it was being retracked.

Believe me... The Predator is that rough.
They need to renovate the predator.
Predator is as rough as mean streak in the very back. I recommend a front seat ride. That is the smoothest and a little rougher than Blue streak at CP.

Hopefully SFDL will never build another wooden coaster. I could not stand to see them let it waste away as they have done with the Predator. This was a GREAT ride when it was built. The park unfortunately has not taken care of it. I was there this week. It is still rough and running slower than ever. They did retrack a couple of spots but the majority of the ride still is in poor shape. Also new trains probably would not hurt.
Hehe, Phil, Predator got new trains this year. :)

Last time I was there, Predator gave a good front seat ride, but those trains really need to be fixed. The structure is fine, but the rolling stock is just plain wrong. They cant go through turns and they shake because the trains are trailered. Raging wolf Bobs at Geauga...er Six flags ohio has the same problem, if a train shuffles through a turn the train is trailered, if not, then the train is articulated. In a nutshell:
TRAILERED: train is hooked behind the wheel axel
ARTICULATED: train is hooked above the wheel axel

Doesnt Predator have a break on its drop or an I mistaken?

To make Mean streak work right: they need to do 3 things:
1 remove the 1st drop break
2 oil the dang track
3 remove the head rests

Mean Streak could easlily be my favorite woodie if they did this stuff

I hope whatever they put in to darien, it really is a switch from the similar rides at Canadas Wonderland. They both have nearly identical flat rides and the parks were both designed by the same person...i cant remember his name off hand. Granted, both parks have incredibly diffferent coaster packages for the most part. Except for the Vekomas.

Attention Single Women...Im Available!
It will be a while before Darien gets anything good they just suck rigth now
I was at the park to prepare for season 2001 on Saturday, March 31st and I noticed a lot of new lumber installed on the Predator. My personal feeling is that it's too little too late for those that have been hurt before and refuse to ride it again.

Either way, that's what I know...what does everyone think?
